WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate confirmed Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state on Wednesday, sweeping aside objections from some Democrats that she should be held accountable for mistakes of the Iraq war.

Yeah, I am not fan of Condi (or whatever I like to call her when feeling crass). But I knew this would happen. And really, what would the alternative be? But geez... she kills me.
Gonzales will be confirmed as well.
The thing is, as Barbara Boxer (my new hero) herself said on the news the other night, there are two schools of thought even among Dems who disagree with Rice or Gonzales. The one is that we have to hold her and the admin accountable for what they've said and done (if you feel it's been wrong) and send a message by not voting her in. The other is, yeah, we dislike her, but it's the President's appointment and unless she's a total disaster (which Boxer even said she felt she was) you have to let him have the cabinet he wants.
Oh, well. Incidentally, excellent editorial in the WashPost today re: Gonzales.
