How to act? Not sad. Just be yourself and be normal. If you feel bad, don't let him know. Just laugh and tell jokes and listen to happy music. You can drink a glass of wine and listen to all the Sarah McLaughin at home!


It's like that Joni Mitchell song referring to love: "Now it's just another game / You leave 'em laughing when you go / And if you care, don't let them know / Don't give yourself away..."


And I'm not trying to be cynical (I don't advocate this attitude for every situation, just this one) but you'll hate it more later on if you acted a fool in front of him now. Trust me.


Just know this: we've all been there and feel for you! I think it sucks when you realize feelings are only on one end of the deal.

It does suck - and I do go to school with him, and he sits right by me in the library. And the last time I saw him I was drunk and bitchy. Not good.

Be very polite but don't engage with him in any way - don't take the initiative in engaging, anyway. Just be happy on your own.


Blubirde - that is a GREAT lyric from Joni Mitchell. I love it and I so agree with it. I wish I'd known that last year when it seemed like all my friends and both my sisters were giving themselves away to men who just weren't worth it in any way.

Tell me about it! I could listen to that song over and over and over again when I'm antsy about boys. It has all the answers without having any of the answers. Make sense? I first heard it on the Love Actually soundtrack. It's in the scene where the wife figures out her husband gave another woman the necklace she saw him buy. So sad - makes me cry every time. But the song is not as depressing as all that - just realistic.
