Thought you'd want v. what you actually did?

After being engaged for more than two years (sheesh!), we are officially kicking off the wedding planning!  Anyway, like most of us do, I've had a vision of how I thought my wedding would be since as far back as I can remember.  Now, as we are choosing our colors, invitations, flowers, cake, dress, etc, the things we are choosing are nowhere near what I thought!  We are coming out quite untraditional in almost every way with nary a rose or white cake in sight!  As you were/are planning your wedding, are you finding that it's ending up the complete opposite or the spitting image of your childhood vision?

July of 2006 - we are waiting to nail down an exact date as that will probably be determined by the availability of the facility we choose.

I'm picking the total opposite of what I thought. I always wanted a Haloween wedding as a child and wanted everyone in costumes and masks. Yet I'm going v traditional, white cake, roses elegance. Nothing like what I pictured. Also I keep changing what I like and don't like. Initially I was dead set against any red, now my dresses and all my flowers are red!

Me too!  I always thought I'd want my colors to by white and green - the colors we are going with are Chartreuse, Coppery Chocolate Brown, and Burnt Orange/Red and have a completely different feel!

i always wanted to get married in the late spring, outside, everything white/green. we ended up picking a date at the end of the summer, and we're still getting married outside, but the colors will be different. the flowers that i wanted to use (lily of the valley, peonies, etc) will be out of season so i had to choose something else and work with a different pallete. the main color of the wedding is a deep teal and we'll be using peacock feather accents in the bouquets and centerpieces. this is the swatch for the bm dresses (along with the inspirational feather!)

i basically tried not to think very much about my wedding before i got engaged because i knew that my taste would change and any ideas that i thought i wanted would be tossed once i got engaged and actually started planning. that's how it has been for everyone that i know.

smash, I love that color palette!

I never thought that much about my wedding when I was younger, other than that I wanted to be outside. However, I never would have wanted to get married in the late spring/summer (my absolute least favorite time of year), and I always wanted to get married in Sedona. But...I ended up in Phoenix, in June. Who knew?

I guess that i never thought much about it as a child. I assumed that i would get married in a catholic church because i grew up in an Italian Catholic houseshold. However, we are getting married outside at the beach, in late spring with my best friend marrying us.

I have not picked any colors, cake, dress, flowers etc and we are getting married on May 7, 2005.  I think i'm seriously considering having people bring beach chairs or towels.

Argh....I think that i lack the bride gene.
