I'm trying to find a really CHEAP hotel in NYC for a couple of days. Has anyone stayed at the Milford Plaza? Is it skeevy? I need an inexpensive place, but I also want to be safe. Any thoughts?
I stayed there once. Didn't like it, tooo small. I mean hotel rooms in NYC are small to begin with but we almost had to crawl over the bed to get to the closet. It was clean, and located near times square. The bed was very uncomfortable. But we requested a non-smoking room, which it said it was, but there was some funky odor. Since my boyfriend and I mostly go just to shop, it doesn't work for us. We usually stay at the Westin four points and the Marcel. They're more expensive, but I like the style of the room and comfort of the beds better. And I like being more away from all the tourist trap stuff near times square...hope this helps...
Never stayed there but when I was younger we used to go there to use the ATM for some reason it charged less than the others so we were always in there getting cash. It is sort of rundown. I have stayed at the Helmsley New York which is not bad the rooms look like they are out of Dynasty the TV show (1981 much?) also the Helmsley Middletowne is nice and not too bad. My parents just stayed at the Kintana and loved it.
Have not heard great things about the Grammercy Park Hotel either.
There are deals to be had just have to look for them.
"the milford plaza is the lullabuy of allll broad-waaaay!!"
excuse me for a second, but that was my favorite commercial jingle when i was younger. lol
okay, so i have stayed at cheap (but nice) hotels a bunch of times, and surprisingly, the red roof inn in midtown (maybe on 33rd?) is great--cheap, clean, no funky odor, close to all subways, times sq, etc.
also, check out rates on www.quikbook.com i've stayed at the bentley lots of times for $100/night and the rooms are great, and you if you ask, they'll try to give you a view of the east river.
i've also stayed at the metropolitan hotel (i think i booked this through expedia) and it was $100 - $120/night but worth it--big rooms, nice staff, etc.
