So I'm having a . . .

GIRL!!  I went to the lab yesterday and they did a Level 2 u/s, which reveals much more than a regular ultrasound.  Anyway, the lab tech pointed out the female genitalia so now we know!!

Me and hubby are very surprised but thrilled!!  I'm so excited to dress her up in cute little dresses and such!

Now we have to think of some girl names--any ideas??  We really like old school or old fashioned names and would love any suggestions you might have.

Anyway, just thought I'd share the news!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! that's so exciting (i love baby girls!)

my sister's actually pregnant (and i'm silently praying for a girl) and here are the names that they are thinking of (trying to make them suitable for a half indian/half french baby). they're definitely not old-fashioned names, but i'll tell you anyway :)

ani (it means beautiful)

amaya

joely/jolie still working on how they might want to spell this one.

they have a bunch of other names that they have found interesting from websites. i'll ask her and post later.

congrats again!!!

Thanks, Monica!  I really like the names you posted, esp. "ani."  It sounds like your sister and her hubby have somewhat similar tastes in names to ours.  If you don't mind posting the list when you get a chance, I'd be sooo appreciative.  We are having a difficult time agreeing on anything!  We want to pick something different but not anything that looks as if we're trying to hard, you know?

Yay!  How fun to have a little girl to play dress up with, hee-hee.  They also can't squirt you when your changing them, ha!!  Two names that I really like a lot are:

Hannah and Abigail.  I like the fact that she can be Abby to her friends, family, and so on, but when she becomes a fabulous career woman she has the option to be Abigail.  I was also very bummed as a child that my name couldn't be made into a nickname:(.  Other cool stuff; Hannah is a palindrome which means it is still the same name if you spell it backwards!

oh, they're actually having the same problem--they don't agree on any names! well, i emailed her and she said that the website that they've liked the best (so far) is www.babynames.com it let's you search by language origin which is especially helpful to them. she also has a book at home that they love -- i'll get that info for you if you're interested.

That's so awesome!

I love the Social Security Administration version of the site that Maddie posted. It's so much fun to go through the popular names from the early 20th century. Plus you can check on the current lists to make sure the name isn't too common, if you're a nut like me.

I like these names for their simplicity and old school-ness:

Hannah

Gabriela (not so old school, but sounds so pretty and I think 'Gaby' or 'Gabi' is a cute nickname

Thanks everyone for the well wishes!!  We are so excited!  I love hearing name suggestions and the websites will be so much fun to check out.

cc--I can't wait to check out that SSA site--what a great idea (and perfect for me b/c I am super ANAL about not wanting to give my child a poplar name!)

monica--Thanks for the site!!  I'd love to know the name of the book that your sister likes if it's ot too much trouble!  Thanks again for emailing her for me.
