I never thought that I would be typing this message.
On Friday, I was out sick from stomach problems. My new boss calls me at home to ask me if I am interested in not doing admin work anymore. I said of course. So he goes on the tell me that he knows how smart I am and how I am very good with numbers, yada yada yada. Then he says he'd like to move me into a Business Analyst position.
My jaw dropped. This guy and I have never gotten along the best. So I am surprised that he wants to keep me on his team. I never thought he would want to work with me more closely.
So we are supposed to talk more in depth about this week. I am excited but scared at the same time. I have never had any interest in the financial field. The only real reason I work at a bank is because the salary for admin positions is higher than most places. I do not plan on being an admin forever. I intend to get into publishing after I get my degree, but that won't be for another year and a half.
So I guess I am wondering if taking a promoting to Business Analyst is a good move. If there is significant more money, then I guess I will take it. But if not, I am not sure what I am going to do.
Congrats! I think that you should take it. It will look much better on your resume than an admin position and that could help you out when you finish your degree. It will obviously give you more responsibility, which always looks good. And who knows, you may end up loving it.
Oh definetly take it. It will look good on your resume that you were promoted and given more responsibilites. Maybe the guy likes your work ethic and he needs someone like you on his team. The same thing happened with my cousin. She was a student worker for one lady and didn't really talk with another lady in the same office but when it was time for her to look for a full time position the other lady found her one before she knew it without even asking. You never know how people are.
Congrats. I think you should take it, because not only do you not want to be a admin. assistant, it is a great opp., it is a change of pace and i bet you will be great at it.
Congratulations! I'm SURE there is a pay raise that goes with it. I doubt your company would ask you to take a job making less money than you are now. You may even like it so much that you choose that as a career instead of publishing.
GOOD for you. Take it. This position will not only show that you have upward mobility within your own company, it will give you a more specific set of skills and experience than your current admin work. And hopefully, even if you don't have an interest in financial/banking industry, the position will provide with some new insights you can apply to your personal financial decisions.
