the post about boutique fragrances got me thinking...
has any of you tried making your own perfume by mixing essential oils, alcohol, etc.?
how about creating your own fragrance by layering 3-4 perfume oils, which you can find in tiny roll-on bottles for a few bucks?
I am tempted to do one of these (probably the second, because it's easier and there's probably less trial-and-error), since I don't like most department perfumes and boutique fragrances are sooo overpriced. I mean come on, $45 for a teensy roll-on perfume oil about the size of your thumb?
I really want to try this. It's so random, but I seriously adore this discontinued Suave scent called ginger-lily that came in body wash, shampoo, conditioner and moisturizer. I love it so much and I can't find anything that smells like it. I was reading the ingredients the other day and was thinking about trying to buy whatever essential oils are in the body wash. It's ginger root extract, lily and something else (it was a citrus scent, maybe orange).
My mom makes her own perfumes. She buy essential oils from health food/ herb shops are makes them for me. My current fave is a citrus one. She mixes grapefruit, orange and lime essential oils together. It smells really great.

I tried to do this in the 8th grade with Body Shop oils. I think everything ended up smelling the same.
I am very interested in getting a custom fragrance made. Sussanne Lang does this and I am very much considering it.... I may save it for a birthday present to myself next year.
dot - having a custom fragrance made is my dream...!
As for DIY fragrance, I think it is very doable as long as you use good quality, 100% essential oils (I wouldn't do it with the perfume oils, which are just a cheaper, less pure version of the essential oils). Also, I would make sure to buy good quality oils, and this can get very expensive. The place where I buy my essential oils has a few 2.5ml bottles that cost over $200 - I think it is Jasmine and Rose Absolut that cost this much. I once bought the Jasmine when I had a lot of spare $ and damn...it kind of ruins you for conventional fragrances after you smell the pure, real thing.
My favourite essential oils are lavendar and Roman chamomile, which I sometimes layer. I'd Google for info on the different oils and prices for good ones. If I had $2000 to spare I would go ape in the essential oil shop and buy one of everything! Making my own custom fragrance is something I'd love to do.
