this morning i got pulled over on my way to work, i wasn't speeding, i wasn't doing anything wrong...
 
he comes up to my window and im like "WHY AM I GETTING PULLED OVER? I wasn't speeding, I'm going to work, I'm not doing anything wrong!"
he says "oh you have an obstruction of view" and points to my yankee candle car freshener hung over my rear-view mirror
and i ask "You ran my plates FOR THIS?!"
then he says "do you know your registration is expired?" and of course i said NO because i had no idea ...  so he writes me a ticket for $40 and says that he will be sending me a summons

I had no idea that was illegal.  Tons of people have air fresheners.  I would be interested to see the law that explains what exactly constitutes an "obstruction of view".  You may want to look into this before you go to court.

my roommate in college had gotten pulled over for this, but the cop just gave her a warning. i think you might be able to fight any possible points in court, but i think you'll still have to pay the ticket.

Yes, that is illegal. They just started cracking down on it in a bigger city by me. They city needs money for police and fire, so this is one of their solution. I guess it has been a law for a little while, so if they choose to enforce it they can. Pretty crappy.

Damn! I guess I better take the hello kitty car freshner down. Can you get a ticket for having a doggone alumni decal in you rear window too?That's some B.S.!

I live in Virginia, and I know that it's illegal here. But, I always thought that it was a way for cops to have an excuse to pull you over to be nosey. I have like a couple air freshners hanging, and it's funny how even when they pull you over for something else like speeding they don't say anything about it.

i know it's illegal to drive around with one of those thick racing stripes on your windshield, but a friggin air freshener?  i know the cop was just being a dick and being that its MLK day, he probably gets extra points or something for giving out tickets today.

I didn't get a ticket but I got a warning for having a shell necklace hanging on my mirror.  So stupid.  It didn't get in the way of anything.


Isn't that what those air fresheners are made for, hanging on the mirror?  In that case, they shouldn't be able to make them.  Or put some sort of disclaimer saying "it is illegal to hang these from your rear view mirror..."
