I am starving but nothing sounds good at all. Does that ever happen to you guys? I am having such a hard time getting excited about any food lately. I recently spent like 45 minutes in the grocery store trying to figure out what to make for dinner and leaving with bread and cheese for a sandwich because I couldn't think of anything else.
That sometimes happens to me but a burrito almost always sounds good to me. I have an obsession with guacamole, so when in doubt I just default to that.
Yup! I am in a slump. You know what is worse though is making something only for it to come out subpar but you are so hungry you eat on it all night. I did that last night with my bland/tasteless chicken/feta/asparagus couscous.
My when in doubt food is: Red beans & rice if it is lunch and I'm at work or brats and sauerkraut if I'm at home.
Sometimes just being hungry makes me crabby and I just get too pissed to want to deal with food and the idea of food just becomes repulsive.
Try and think of something you normally like and just make yourself eat it, and then you will probably feel better. Or maybe go out to a restaurant you like just to revive your attitude towards food?
I'm with Kitty, Mexican food always sounds good to me, especially if it involves guacamole. Or pasta with some kind of cheesy cream sauce.
If I can't think of anything else to make, I make enchiladas with easy green sauce (put one 7 oz can of store bought salsa verde, a cup of chopped onions, 1/4 cup cilantro leaves (no stems, don't bother chopping the leaves), and a few cloves of garlic in a blender and puree).
Maybe try a new ethnic cookbook? I am currently in love with my "Quick and Easy" Indian and Thai books! I also have a vegetarian cookbook which has lots of fun and interesting things to try.
I used to have the hardest time planning meals. Then I started reading cooking blogs. Do you have a google account? You can use google reader to subscribe to some cooking blogs. You can tag entries you like so you can see them again later. My current favorite is "Tigers and Strawberries," (http://www.tigersandstrawberries.com/) written by a chef at a Middle Eastern Restaurant in Ohio. I've made some of the stuff she's posted and it is SO GOOD.
Yes it happens to me. Nothing sounds good, or what sounds good I'm too lazy to make. the only solutions that satisfy me are pretzels and wine, or we blow $80 on dinner out at our favorite restaurant.
When I get tired of the same old I try a new recipe. When I'm at the grocery store I look at things I've never bought before and give them a try. I also agree that Mexican food is ALWAYS good!
I have this problem constantly! I thought I was the only one. I will be hungry but nothing seems like it will be good, and I just keep getting hungrier and hungrier and grumpier because I want to eat but I don't know what. Usually I just eat a bagel with cream cheese or potato salad because both of those things are kind of comforting but fill you up quickly.
