this might be a stupid question...but I really wonder if i make it the same way as hot coffee but pour it over ice? I would think that would take a while cause it would melt the ice in the beginning.....

You could make a highly-concentrated coffee or shots of espresso and let it cool.  When you want to make the iced drink at home, pour the coffee concentrate over ice and fill with cold water or cold milk to taste.  This might take some experimentation in order to get the levels right.  You can also look up some iced coffee recipes for guidance on measurements.  Most recipes I found just have you make these iced drinks from leftover coffee from the morning.

Found this online

Ingredients:

  • 4 teaspoons instant coffee granules I would use "real" brewed coffee
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 4 teaspoons sugar substitute equivalent to 4 teaspoons sugar, optional
  • 1 cup fat-free milk
  • 4 teaspoons chocolate syrup
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes
    Re: Iced Coffee
I use leftover Starbucks from our morning pot of coffee, but omit the sugar and vanilla. Sometimes I purposely make extra coffee and store it in a covered pitcher in the refrigerator so we have plenty on hand to make this refreshing drink (especially during the hot summer months). Just a tip: If making this with cold coffee from the refrigerator, it is easier to stir the chocolate syrup into the milk and then add the coffee, than it is to stir it into the coffee first. You can easily adjust the amount of coffee to milk ratio to make it the strength you want.  We think this tastes every bit as good as the iced coffee from Starbucks, and it can be made for a LOT less!

I often just make a huge pot of stronger than usual coffee which I let that cool so it won't melt my plastic tupperware container.  Then I put it in the fridge and serve over ice once its cooled more.

I do the same as Alikat, just brew it hot and then pour in container and store in the fridge. Then in the morning just add liquid creamer and milk to it.

I just pour the coffee over ice and add my half & half, but maybe that's just me. It cools down very quickly and doesn't get watery. And, if it does, I just add a little more coffee.

I'm pretty sure that's how mcdonald's does it. I'm totally in love with the Burger king mocha joe yum...I found a recipe online but it says to use shake mix...I'm trying to figure out a substitution for that...maybe just vanilla ice cream?

40% BK Joe coffee, 40% vanilla shake mix and 20% chocolate syrup

I've never had the BK version but I've blended mine with vanilla ice cream, and YUM!

I always brew the night before and cool it in the fridge. You could also prepare coffee ice cubes.

I never thought of coffee ice cubes!  I'll have to try that!

this is what I do too. Regular ice cubes water it down too much.
