My sister just graduated from college with a BA in communications with a concentration in graphic design.  She has an interview for an advertising assistant.  In the ad it said they were willing to train the right person.  The person she spoke with told her to bring some of her stuff.  Well she doesn't have any stuff and isn't really sure what kind of stuff they are looking for.  A lot of her classes just had her working on developing websites.  Is this the sort of thing she should show to the interviewer?  I'm clueless when it comes to this field so I really couldn't give her any insight.  Thanks for any help.

Yeah they are probably expecting her to bring in a portfolio since she has the minor in graphic design. She should go to a copy shop and get color print-outs of whatever projects she did in her classes and put them in a portfolio. If she doesn't have much she could always do a few extra things on her own like a flyer, a logo or a fake ad.

Yeah, they definitely want her to bring a portfolio. If she has anything from any internships that's better than stuff from classes. If she doesn't have internship work, print out the best work from classes (maybe she had a senior seminar class in which she worked on a big project for the whole semester--I had this and I have it in my portfolio since it shows my graphic design skills). Make sure that once she has collected all of her work that she puts it together in a portfolio. Leather ones are best, but in a pinch a three binder with the work protected in plastic sleeves works just as well.
