I'm looking to save some money and do my highlights at home.

I have dark brown hair currently, and would like to do blond highlights.

Can anyone give me any tips on which products to use, what technique to use and what to do so my hair doesn't look brassy?

Thanks.

Not really an answer to your question, but I have never had luck with them. I have used the Herbal Essece and the new kind the comes in the red box. Loreal maybe? The brand is totally escaping me, but I have never had luck with any of them. I have done it on myself twice and my Mom once and htey turned out horrible everytime. I have dyed my hair and everythig was great, but hightlights are impossilbe for me to master.

I have thick, long dark brow hair, from your pick I can see that you have curly dark hair. I have used Herbal Essence one of the blond ones, They came out decent, but the comb they provide didn't hold enough to do the whole strand so, it was quite difficult, but I saw a commercial, they sell a set for long hair now, so that might work. You could also check out a beauty supply store to see the options they have.
