For anyone who remembers, I was promoted a little less than 2 months ago into a new department in my company. The job is going ok - but it's a little frustrating... basically when I was hired, they said they would put me in Forecasting to help them out for a little bit, and then I would be placed in a "world" (be it Juvenile, R Zone, Babies, etc) ... I have been here almost 2 months, and I'm still in Forecasting. I was trying to follow up with my HR contact for a while to see what exactly is going on, and what exactly has been mapped out for me, as I was placed somewhere without my consent or approval.
I met with the HR lady, Leah, and my boss. She said that I have to stay with Forecasting for 6 months to "help them out" and train. I told her that is ridiculous because Forecasting has NOTHING to do with being a Planning & Allocation analyst, and my boss agreed. She said that she will set me up with some classroom training for P&A software programs and also have me sit with some people, but I will have to stay here the 6 months. She said the reason it was like this is because I was hired during Christmas season. I am really frustrated, I don't want to do Forecasting, I want to do P&A. My friend A from the old department just started yesterday, is already being trained on P&A so I don't understand why they can't just place me anywhere. Also my other concern is that in 6 months, I will probably be out on Maternity Leave... so I don't know if my job is guaranteed. Sorry this turned into a vent -- what would you do? Should I get things in writing?
Oh my boss just came to talk to me -- She said that she spoke to our director and there is no such thing as a 6 month training period, because according to him, my position at Forecasting is permanent.
If I were you I'd be pissed! It sounds to me like they needed someone in forcasting, so they told you it was for 'training', and now "Oops, didn't they tell you? You're going to be permanent here!". Basically, you agreed to one position and they put you in another. Do you have a signed agreement regarding your P&A position? If possible, talk to your boss again and let her know that this is unacceptable. If she still won't budge, take it over her head. Good Luck!

Karina, I don't know what job you do but this doesn't sound good from what you have posted. It doesn't sound like they've been honest with you (and to top that off, they're still beating around the bush). You are in a very iffy position with nothing in writing, especially with the probable maternity leave coming up. You need to get a straight answer - I would demand that, regarding what your position is and what it will be in the future. Once you have that answer, you can make a decision about your future with that company.

So if you are in Forecasting permanently as it seems, what do you need to do to get into P&A? Remind them this was supposed to be a temporary arrangement and on good faith they should be looking to appease you.
At this point I would now talk to my supervisor about what my horizons will be after you come back from maternity leave.
The situation sucks and without a written contract it seems that it was a big misrepresentation to you.
