Hmm, that sounds interesting. I actually have a degree in Fashion, emphasis on Merchandising, but I've never done anything with it. It's good to know that exists if I ever decide to use it...

I've never worked for Neiman's but usually big dept stores who have training programs (I've been through JCP'S Sr. Dept. Mgr. program) are really good if you want to pursue the higher up's in retail. I know federated (Macy's, Lazarus- macy's, Rich's etc.) also has a buyers training program (you train in ATL, for some weeks). I actually interview for the T.J. Maxx corporation merchandise buying program, whih may be good IF you already live in Massachusetts OR you're just starting out of college (I've been out for only 2 yrs, though) BECAUSE they wanted me to take a $6,000 pay cut! Yeah right.I don't have a problem w/ relocation (my current position moved me from Cincy to Connecticut) but Move to take a cut in pay.................Don't think so! But they usually they offer relocation assistance. I say it's probably a good program all in all! Very worth it when you want to put your degree to good use.

right now I'm doing merchandise planning and sales forecasting for Toys R Us, I don't know if the Neiman's thing would be a lateral move for me, but becoming an Assistant Buyer at my company is pretty competitive!

I'm not personally familiar with Neiman's merchandise development program but based on what I can tell from the website, it seems very similar to the program I just went through at my company - both in the training and career path. don't know about nm, but i know that saks, bendels, macys, and bloomingdales have similar programs in case you don't want to leave the nyc metro area.
