Hair powder recs
Permalink Closed

I have light brown hair and use regular baby powder a couple of times a week in it but would like to try a colored hair powder. Does anyone use it and have a rec? I know this was discussed on FH---I wish the archives hadn't been erased.

Do you mean powder that you use to absorb the oil so you don't have to use shampoo? If so, then have you ever used PSSSSSST? It's this old school product from the 70s that is 'Instant Spray Shampoo'. It's only one color and you spray it on, fluff your hair, and you are good to go. I'm kinda embarrassed I'm admitting how great this stuff is and that I use it. It was just re-issued after being off the shelves for a long time and I honestly think my mom bought every can in Atlanta. Both of us are lazy and hate to wash our hair, so this is a god send because it sucks up the grease and gives great volume.

This is what it looks like... the packaging leaves much to be desired.

Another much more upscale option are the Bumble and Bumble hair powders. They come in hair colors. My mom tried this but she said it didn't work as well as our beloved, ghetto PSSSSSSST and was way more expensive.

The B&B poweders are okay, but in my experience the powder would deposit all over my neck and it would give me ring around the collar especially on my whites.  I recently found Klorane, it's a French powder "shampoo", but it is essentially just a hair powder.  It is finer than regular baby powder so it blends right in.  I have dark brunette hair right now, and it works with my hair.  You can buy it at www.beautycatalogue.com.  I think the cost is about $26.00

thanks fireball. Sounds good -- how long does it last? I would probably use it 2 or 3 times a week.

I like baby powder, just not the smell or the whiteness.

I have used my Clinique loose powder a few times in desparation when I didn't have baby powder when I am traveling or something and I like the results. I am thinking about buying some drug store loose face powder and just using that...maybe Maybelline or Corn Silk or something.

SFC where did you get pssst in atlanta? I use shower to shower body powder b/c I have blonde hair and I don't really like the smell of baby powder. It works pretty well, I also hate washing my hair.

To get PSSSSSSSSSSSST you can

1.) Get it online. I'm sure you can get it off ebay or go to Froogle.com and search for "Instant Spray Shampoo" and the sites that sell it will come up

2.) My mom found it at CVS (brick and morter). You might want to look there.

I have never used anything likes this and am interested. How much does it help? I am so greasy. I have to wash my hair everyday and especially with bangs, because they are always on my forehead. Just wanted some more info. Thanks.

Mikacat - Not sure, I am on my first bottle right now.  It has about the same amount of powder as B&B.  I had the B&B for almost 6 months before I colored my hair and was unable to use it anymore.  In an average week, I use my hair powder 2-3 times.  I still try to only wash my hair once a week.

RyanJ- Are you looking into decreasing the number of times you shampoo your hair in a given week?  If so, the hair powder will help,  BUT, you will be greasy until your hair gets used to the new washing schedule.  Pony tails and up-dos will be your best friend.
