that's really sad. especially considering how much intense scrutiny they're marriage has been under. i hope they work it out. not necessarily b/c i have an affinity for either one, but as doveannu said, it's always sad when a marriage fails.

so weird.  as soon as i heard about this i thought of what maddie said about them a while ago.  there was some comment jennifer aniston made about their marriage and maddie posted (on FH)that she thought that a marriage should mean more than that--ever since then i've thought, yeah, they're both great people but i'm sure they'll break up.  how sad.

Was it the thing she said on oprah?  It was something like...marriage doesn't have to last forever/ I don't believe in being with one person for the rest of your life.  I was shocked when she said that and was wondering why she would get married if that was her attitude.

Haha, esquiress I was just thinking of exactly what you said!  I guess it's too bad, but I don't feel bad for them at all.  I don't think they went into their marriage with serious intentions and so there's no way it could be expected to last.  I'm a horrible horrible person, but I kind of feel like, it serves them right.  Marriage is serious, it means a lot to a lot of people, and there are so many gay people out there who would kill for the right to marry.  Yet Brad and Jen just do it frivolously.

I think they broke up b/c he wants kids and she doesn't.

On a side note, I just got engaged to that blue Chloe dress yesterday. Brad: why is fate aligned against us?

That really sucks.  I hoped they would defy the Hollywood marriage odds.   I hope he finds love again and gets the chance to have children.

Yeah, it's sad but does this mean I can expect Brad knocking on my door anytime soons???

face it, he's on the market again, wonder who will be the first one publically dating so we can blame the whole break up on that one.

Urgh. For some reason, this makes me particularly sad. Which I don't get, because I don't know these people. Maybe it's because they did seem to be genuinely in love at one point.

I wonder if it was the baby issue?

Very sad.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston Separate

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Superstar Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston (news) have separated after 4 1/2 years of marriage, but they remain "committed and caring friends," they said on Friday.

The announcement of their split followed months of tabloid stories about spousal ups and downs, including reports that Pitt, 41, wanted to become a father but Aniston, 35, was reluctant to start a family.

Aniston had been photographed recently without her wedding ring, but just two days ago the New York Post splashed a picture of the couple on its front page with a circle around Aniston's hand and the headline: "The Ring's Back On!"

Pitt, one of Hollywood's most sought-after leading men, and Aniston, who became a household name on the long-running NBC television comedy "Friends," met on a dinner date in 1998.

They were married in a lavish, celebrity-studded wedding in the seaside California resort of Malibu on July 29, 2000.

News of their breakup came in an understated announcement released late on Friday afternoon through People magazine.

"We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate," they said. "For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media.

"This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another. We ask in advance for your kindness and sensitivity in the coming months."

Aniston's spokesman said the pair spent the New Year's holiday weekend vacationing together in the Caribbean with her former "Friends" co-star Courteney Cox (news) and her husband, David Arquette (news).

Pitt, currently starring in the crime caper "Ocean's Twelve," and Aniston, best known for her TV role as Rachel Green in "Friends," also are partners in film production company, Plan B, whose first movie, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," is due out later this year from Warner Bros.

This is so sad.  I think they are a great couple.  I believe in there industry it is hard to maintain a relationship and even harder to have a good marriage.  I hope they can somehow work things out.  Marriage is hard work and full of compromise but when you find the right person its all worth it.

More than half of all marriages fail, but Hollywood is like a different planet and it seems a real oddity when a marriage actually stands the test of time.  I think because these people are always traveling and without their partner it is hard to maintain the relationship, but anything can be done with enough hard work.  I think most people in Hollywood are really out of touch with life as we know it, and don't view relationships as longstanding, but as a matter of convenience (geez, I am a tad cynical, aren't I?).

Brad had made a comment too, in People magazine while he was filming Troy.  It was something along the lines of people not being meant to be together forever, just as long as it suits both people regardless of if they are married.  I remember it well because a lot of people had wrote in an editorial about that and what it spoke of his testiment to marriage.

terribly sad.   i thought they'd be the one Hollywood couple to weather the storm.  guess that's why he got choked up in his ABC interview w/the Ocean's Twelve cast.
