Is this totally lame or not?

I was trying to think of something cool to get my boy for Valentines Day. I was hoping to come up w/ something other than CDs or DVDs. I thought of getting some pictures taken of myself. The reason I thought this is a good idea is because we have been together for over 5 years and I think he has one picture of me. Think Britney Spears walking out of the gas station restroom- except I HAVE my shoes on. I hate getting my picture taken, so he has just stopped trying. Just the thought of having my picutre taken just makes me feel nervous and sick to my stomoach. I feel like a narcissist egomaniac giving someone a picture of me for a present. ‘Here baby, a picture of me. Don’t you just love it!?’ There is just this part of me that thinks he would like it. The picture Smash had of  her STD card actually made me think of doing this. I saw how great her picutre looks.

Tell me what you think and be brutal- I can handle it.

I think it is a nice idea since he doesn't have any good pics of you and would like some.  And since he knows you don't like your pic taken...it will probably mean alot to him that you made an exception for him.  I wouldn't worry about the "narcissist egomaniac" thing.  If you have been together for 5 years he certainly knows that you are not an egomaniac!

I think it is a good idea and from what you are saying it seems like it would mean a lot to him by getting something like this.

i think it's a great idea too and i wouldn't worry about coming off like an egomaniac, you obviously aren't or else you'd love getting your pic taken!   oh but what about getting a photographer (a good one) to take pictures of you guys together?  and then framing the best one?

Wow-I have no idea why I didn't think of that (that was sincere- not trying to be sarcastic)! I am going to really consider that. I think if he was there then maybe I would be a little more relaxed. I just have this horrilbe vision of all the pictures being really stiff and only a smile you would get when someone has a gun to your head forcing you to smile.

I think it's a cute idea.  I like the idea of having you by yourself though b/c then he doesn't have to sit through it and it will be a complete surprise.  Also, he'll think it's really sweet if he knows how badly you hate getting pics taken.  JMO.

That's such a cute idea!  Another thing you can do is maybe have someone paint a picture of you two.

I think a couple shot would be best, although it will spoil the surprise.

Since your BF loves music (you mention CD's like its a regular thing), have you considered buying him an MP3 player?  They have all price ranges (I saw a Virgin one at Target for $50), then you could upload all his favorite CD's/songs onto it for a really personalized gift.  I gave my SO an MP3 for Christmas and uploaded all his CD's, plus song's I bought on the net, and he said it is the best gift he ever got.   Just another thought.

I was kind of trying to give him something that was more like I made it. I don't know to describe it.  I buy him stuff all the time-electronics, clothes, sports equimpment. I was looking for something that thought- for lack of a better word. Thanks for the suggestions!

RyanJ - I think that's a great idea. I hate to sing in front of people, and my ex would always ask me to do it - he always told me I should trust him etc. but I could never bring myself to do it. If we had stayed together I was thinking of singing him a sng for his birthday. It would have hurt me, a lot, but I was considering it!

He'll know and understand what it meant for you to do it - that's the best kind of prezzie!

A pic is definitely a cute idea! I've done it before and the bf loved it - at least he said he did! If you have a friend who's a good photographer, or even better, a photographer friend, that would be best because they know you and can catch you at your best. Hanging out, laughing, whatever.

I'm not a big fan of "couple" pics but if you are, go for it.

Maybe throw in a sweater or something to wrap the pic in so his materialistic side will be satisfied, too! (Okay, this could be a "just me" thing...)

Well, as far as thought goes, the real gift in giving my SO the MP3 was the library of songs he now has at his disposal (I uploaded around 600 songs), which is something you just can't buy right now.  Plus, you have to know an awful lot about a person to know what songs they like.  Anyway, it was a lot of hardwork (2 days of downloading into my computer, then uploading into the MP3), and he understood and totally apprecated that. Had I just bought him an MP3 it would have been essentially useless to him (he isn't the least bit computer savvy).  I'm not trying to persuade you, just wanted to point out the thought behind the gift.
