I'll be going to Chicago in February for a work thing.  There's actually no guarantee that I'll get into downtown Chicago, but just in case, for those that live in Chicago or have been, what are stores that you guys like to shop at, or are must-go type of stores?  I've been once before and I plan on going to LV (need a coin purse), H&M, and Urban Outfitters (love that store).  I want to go to other stores too, but ones that aren't necessarily mainstream but still affordable.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Ohh, me too! I'll be there with the boyfriend at the end of Feb-early March.  I know I want to go to h+m and what's the store with the 21 in it? Not forever21... Any other trendy, low price stores?  Any little local stores I should check out? Isn't there a loemmans there or something like that? Is that worth a trip?

Thanks ladies!

Okay what sort of shopping are you all looking for? More B&M stores or smaller boutique like placs? If so in which area's of chicago will you be? That will help me narrow my resopnse for you. Also you said you may not make it to the city, what suburb will you be in? I grew up n the burbs so I may be able to help you there as well/

Well, the meeting thing for work (and where our hotel is) is in Lisle, IL.  But, I was planning on seeing if one of the guys from work wouldn't mind driving down into downtown Chicago (Michigan Avenue, etc.) so that we can do shopping, museums, etc.  I'm interested in smaller boutiques as well as the big stores like H&M, Urban Outfitters, etc.  All of this has to be able to be walked, since I don't really feel like navigating the El.  I do not have a problem walking a lot either...

Thanks!

Carrie, if you can't make it into the city you should try to make it to Woodfield mall in Schaumburg. I live in the northern suburbs and I go there when I want to do a lot of shopping. I can't remember what department stores are there, but there is a H&M and an Urban Outfitters. There is also a store called Ruehl, which is awesome. It's new from the Abercrombie brand and is kind of pricey but very nice and targets people in their twenties. Oh yeah, and the whole store is designed to look like an apartment. I think there's an Anthropologie, too. A lot of other stores are near the mall including DSW, Marshalls and Lohemann's.

Anyway, Schaumburg is probably about 30 miles north of Lisle. The mall website is shopwoodfield.com

I can't really make any suggestions for downtown. When I go, I usually stick to State Street and Michigan Ave. I can't remember exactly what's on State, but I know there is a Nordstrom Rack and a Filene's Basement. There is also a H&M (and another on Michigan) and there's a UO on State, although I don't know exactly where because I've never been to that one. Hope this helps a little

Thanks for responding! Unfortunately, I won't be going anywhere now. Our new computer system is getting installed that week at work and I have to be there to help with the concession part of it. I was really looking forward to going shopping too!

But, thanks for the suggestions! Whenever I'm near Chicago again I'll definitely have to check that mall out; it sounds like my kind of place

Edit: Just looked at the webpage for that mall; now I REALLY know that the mall in my town sucks...sigh....
