Question to the moms......
Permalink Closed

Is there a good website to go to that gives good suggestions and consumer feedback for baby items.  I need to register soon, but have no clue what brands are best, what features to look for, etc.

Diapers, bottles, strollers, gadgets....it is overwhelming.

I haven't done any google search yet, was hoping to find a shortcut.  Any help is appreciated!

Target is the best site I've seen for customer ratings and reviews. I don't totally rely on those myself because I think some people are impossible to satisfy, but it does help me know if there is something I should steer clear of.

I also really liked Babies'R'Us, they have product reviews. And also asking other mom's. Good luck!

I've heard good things about Baby Bargains, which is a book but they also have a blog.

Most of my friends really like Graco's products. When they all registered they either had their Mom go with them or another friend that has children. They said that helped a lot with the registry because it is very overwhelming. I don't have any kids yet myself, but I have 5 friends all about to give birth this summer.

When I had my first son in 2004, I relied on the very few mothers of young kids that I knew and the ratings on babiesrus.com and target.com.  After I had my second son in 2006, I knew better and probably would have shopped consignment stores, but I already had everything.

Consumer Reports is a good place to help decide on a carseat.

Stuff I got a lot of use from and wouldn't have wanted to be without:

*Miracle Blanket
*My Brest Friend nursing pillow
*Medela pump in style
*Pampers Swaddlers diapers and sensitive wipes
*Lansinoh nursing pads
*any brand swing (helps calm baby/sleep)
*any brand bouncer with lots of features to entertain the baby
*any brand activity center/exersaucer with lots of features
*a whole bunch of WHITE cloth diapers/burp cloths so you can just bleach instead of stain-treat!

I've been looking at reviews on both Babies-R-Us and Amazon.com.  I also have the Baby Bargains book which has been helpful.  I've also looked at some of my friends' registries for ideas.  I'm still early on in my pregnancy, but I'm starting early because I am finding all of this baby gear stuff very overwhelming!  Here are some of my thoughts on brands that I think I'm going to register for...this may change once I see things in person:

For a highchair:  Chicco Polly
For an infant car seat/infant carrier: Graco Snugride
For swings, bouncers, etc.: Fisher Price (I think the Baby Papasan swing
      really cute)
For a breast pump: the Medela pump in style double advanced breast pump
For a diaper pail: I looked at reviews of the more popular Diaper Genie and
Diaper Champ, but reviews were mixed.  The Diaper Dekor Plus actually got
     the best reviews.
Activity center: Gymini
Monitor: I'm not sure to get the video monitor or not...I think I am leaning
towards the video because it will give me peace of mind

Other things I'm probably going to register for:
     -a Baby Bjorn
     -Boppy
     -Graco Pack n Play

Good answers right there. I was sort of on my own since none of  my friends have kids (which sucks). most of the stuff I found out about too late. I really like pampers diapers but prefer huggies wipes because they are thicker. Oh and pampers has a rewards program so it's nice to get a little something back once in awhile for all the money you dump into buying diapers. Also if you aren't nursing sign up on the formula websites and they will send you forumula and coupons. Formula gets expensive so every little bit helps smile
