someone (ally s maybe?) posted somewhere else that they were planning a trip to portugal.  if you don't mind, will you share some of the details of where/when you are going and what cities, etc?

i saw an article in the la times travel section a month or so ago, and it had all these amazing pictures of fairytale castles and stuff.  i have been obsessed with it ever since and am thinking of making it my next vacation place...

i have been to oporto and lisboa and it wasn't that great... the outskirts of the cities were pretty but the cities itself were very dirty and littered.  also, this is 10 yrs ago so I'm not sure if they have changed.

Yes I', going to Portugal in the early Spring. I have been there six other times and it's beautiful.

My husband is from Evora da Alcobaca and still has family there, so that will be our first stop.

We are also going to Lisbon and Coimbra and I am hoping to get a day trip in to the Azores. I can honestly say I don't do any of the clubs or really touristy things, Lisbon is great for small shops and unique finds. I don't go there looking for clothing, but they have the most beautiful ceramics and potteries as well as hand made jewelry that is gorgeous.
Warning* Shopping is not cheap!

The museums are wonderful and I recommend the National Museum of Ajuda as well as any of the Ancient Art Museums, there are also several archaelogical museums as well as martime museums. Lisbon is hard to drive around but it's do-able, we always rent a car but I prefer to walk.

Driving into the country to Coimbra is beautiful, it's so picturesque.
