Need tips- South Beach Diet

Help! I gained a ton of weight over the holidays!

A friend of mine said that they did the South Beach diet and lost 25 lbs.

What is it? How does it work? What foods do I need to eat/stay away from?

Thanks!

Its a modified version of Atkins and some people find it easier to follow than Atkins.  I think you have to buy the book in order to follow the diet but I'm not sure. I don't have the will power to give up carbs and I don't want the emotional roller coaster of going on this diet and then possibly gaining the weight back after I finish it because its not a diet you can live on for the rest of your life.  I do Weight Watchers instead and I've done well losing and keeping weight off on it.

Try googling South Beach Diet to see what other sites say.  I know ivillage.com and other similar sites have reviewed and written articles on it.

How has Weight Watchers worked for you? It sounds like you're maintaining the weight you want.

Is Weight Watchers easier to do?

Yeah, I've heard that the South Beach diet is alot easier to stay on then the Atkins diet.

There are a ton of different variations of Weight Watchers from over the years.  I currently use the Winning Points system where you get a certain number of points per weight range and every food is pointed so you keep a food diary each day and add up your points and such. The 2 programs WW promotes is FlexPoints where you get a target number of points per day plus 35 "flex points" that you can use at any time in the week so if you go out to dinner you just use your flex points and don't worry about going over your target that day.  The other newer program is Core where you don't count points.  I'm not sure exactly how it works.

I started it last Jan when I was 150 and by June I was down to 135 my 10% WW goal.  My ultimate goal is 120 which I could have gotten to last year if I wouldn't have slacked off in June but I did maintain my weight loss which is good.

The thing about WW is that its a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. It is easy to follow once you get on it and it makes you feel healthier and better since you are eating better.  You still can eat your junk food but just not as much as before.

You can buy the books if you want to on ebay for $10-$15 each (there are 2) or you can just go over to www.dwlz.com and get all the info over there.  They have an awesome message board over there with other people of all ages who share recipies and motivate you to keep going.  Go check that site for more info on the programs and such.

Thanks for you help!!! I"m going to look into the Weight Watchers program. It sounds like it makes more sense. Not as restrictive as the Atkins and easier to follow.
