i went to the mall yesterday w/ my friend to return a bunch of xmas presents she had gotten from her bf's family. the stuff came in a filene's box, so she assumed it was from filene's even though there were no filene's tags or gift recipts.
so she explained to the salesperson in an incredibly honest way that she wasn't sure if the stuff even came from filene's and could she still return it for a store credit. the girl said sure and the first item she scans is a purse. the purse comes up as being returnable for $0.01, and the salesgirl says,"they must have had this for a long time b/c when it comes up as .01 that means we haven't even had it in the store in forever."
that happened to me before. my aunt got me this horrid sweatshirt from marshall's once, so my mom said why don't you return it and see what else you can get. (i mean you can always find something at marshall's) when i took it to customer service, they said it was worth $.01 in store credit.

i'll suggest that to my aunt the next time i talk to her. but she is notorious for this in my family. my mom got more pissed than i did b/c we used to do a whole gift exchange with them for the kids, and my mom used to spend $200+ on gifts for her family.
