Awful. I saw a picture on the front of the WashPost site today of a woman crying over the body of her dead little boy. On the radio (NPR) they talked about children out on the beach when the tsunamis came up... so terrible. Then they were talking about how relatives in this country or wherever can't get in touch with family over there and have no idea of the fate of their loved ones. It's absolute chaos. The worst part is, the number is too big to even be fathomable. Putting a human face on it like that woman's and thinking that hers is just one of so many sad stories...

I share office space with some people who have an office in Sri Lanka, and they said a lot of people there go away to the coast on the weekends, so there were more people in the worst-hit area than there would be if this had happened during the week. It's so awful to think about.
It's really sad and devastating. I'm worried because one of my best friends from college lives in East Java in Indonesia, it's not near the epicenter, but it's close and I think where she lives was affected in some way by the tsunamis. I hope that her and her husband is alright. Please say a prayer for them and the others who are affected by this disaster.
My family has vacationed in Phuket in the past and I've just been watching the news and I'm so sad...my entire extended family is in Thailand and so far I haven't heard any bad news and I really hope I don't...
I cannot even imagine the devastation! I have a friend that was scuba diving when the actual tsunami hit - we got an email from her saying that she was alright and is scheduled to come home Monday if the airport is still intact. Scary!

An addition to mizzle's list of charities: Direct Relief (http://www.directrelief.org/index.html) is another great organization; over 99% of all donations go to relief efforts (as opposed to administrative or fundraising costs).
