a sex/boys poll/discussion (potentially graphic)

i had been wanting to post about this for months but i was too chicken. now, however, i am really bored so i figured i would put this out there.

the topic of discussion is.....cut vs. uncut.
and specifically, are you turned off/grossed out by uncircumcised guys?

the reason that i'm curious is because i had always been anti-circumcision and didn't think that i would ever want to have my boys cut (if i ever have any) but then i saw that episode of nip/tuck in which the son tries to do an at-home circumcision after his gf rejects him. i didn't realize that a lot of girls are grossed out out by uncuts! i guess i don't really know many girls so it never came up.

my first bf wasn't circumcised and i didn't know any different so i never thought anything of it. and now that i've been around the block (oh man, so not true!) i guess i don't really see any difference. well, obviously, i see a difference, but i don't prefer one over the other.

sooo....thoughts?

I like crewnecks rather than turtlenecks. My eyes have been blinded by a drunken frat boy doing disgusting but intriguing "Dick Tricks" with his uncircumsized member. He could do tricks such as the double shot glass, the rose among others you get the picture.

As far as babies, I was just at my nephews bris (the jewish circumsion ceremony) He was fine he actually fell right asleep afterward and will not be traumatized by the event.

I've never been w/ an uncut man, so I cannot say, but I love your bravery to bring up this topic so I had to respond! ;)

I like the uncut version.  Although the cut definetly wouldn't be rejected.  There really isn't that of a difference between the two.

For some strange reason - my husband and I had a talk about this the other day - Oh, I remember why - I have  been lurking on some parenting chat boards and I was surprised by the number of women who don't plan on circumsizing their sons.

Personally, I would be freaked out if I came across a guy that wasn't - but only becuase it is not familiar to me. There is something about the cleanliness issue that gets me...

Being Jewish though - makes it easy - we don't have a choice. I have been to many Bris's - yes, I am sure it is incomfy for the little boy - but they do give them a little wine, and in a week or so it is all healed - and I am sure if you ask any man - he doesn't remember it anyway. Besides, just about everything at that age (10 days or so I think) is new and traumatic!

Personally my hubby and both sons are.  I can't really say I have seen an uncircumsized one. There really wasn't a whole lot of thought put into it when we had our kids because it just seemed normal to do it at the time.  Looking at my boys now I am quite confident that they were not traumatized by the whole event.  They seem to be  "typical" boys.  I don't know.  Do what feels right to you.

wow, my ex never did any tricks for me! haha that's pretty gross.

i know a lot of people bring up the hygiene issue but my ex was definitely not the cleanest person in the world and there were never any problems down there.
although my one friend said he has heard horror stories from gay guys. yuck, i don't even want to think about it.

i'm not really anti-circumcision because i fear that it would be painful or traumatic for the baby (although that is a small part of it) but just because i don't really think it's right for a parent to elect to alter a child's anatomy (especially down there - those nerve endings are precious!) if there isn't really a need to.

so i think the only thing that would change my mind is the fact that lots of girls seem to be freaked out by uncuts and i wouldn't want my poor son to feel self-concious or be rejected. btw did anyone see that episode of nip/tuck? -- i almost cried :(

All of my bf's in the past have been cut and current bf is uncut.  I dont have a preferrence but I would probably cut my son if I ever had one.  Not sure why but I just think I would.

I was with only one guy who was uncircumsized and it totally grossed me out sooo ...yeah.

p.s. - both fh and son are circumsized ... they give the baby an anestetic cream right before the procedure, and he was fine!

definitely circumcised. the only 2 i've seen that weren't were GO's at club med. they were HOT, but GROSS.

i can comrehend the trauma factor but the babies don't remember and it's not a necessary body part, so....

in college we used to call it (being uncircumsized) "rocking the hoodie." i've never seen a real live uncircumiszed penis, but i know what one looks like. (in college i took a class on censorship and we studied robert mapplethorpe). anyway i don't know...though my college roommate swore by them.  she thought the sex was better b/c the penis was less sensitive and therefore lasted longer. sorry if that's tmi, but considering the topic, it is appropriate.

I've only dealt with one uncut one and it was totally fine, although I was a little thrown off at first.  My roommate though, has dealt with many penises and says that she's seen some uncut ones that were really gross cause the guy didn't keep them clean.  I would get my son circumsized, I think it's more attractive.

I spent some teenaged years in England so...um, I'm familiar with both kinds. Honestly, I don't mind either way. If I had a boy I would not circumcize him for the exact reason you - cc - stated:

"just because i don't really think it's right for a parent to elect to alter a child's anatomy (especially down there - those nerve endings are precious!) if there isn't really a need to."

I just don't feel it's my business to be making decisions like that for another person. If he turns 18 and decides he wants to be circ'ed then he can have it done, but if I do it when he is a newborn and he decides at 18 it isn't for him, well, there won't be any going back then. I've read enough about the nerve endings there (on this very issue!) not necessarily to be convinced, but to be swayed enough that I don't want to take the chance of possible desensitization. Nature made boys that way and my general default position is not to mess with nature without a real good reason.

I've read that the percentage of newborn boys being circ'ed for non-religious reasons is falling steadily, because people are just thinking more about it now instead of it being automatic. Also, outside of the US, the vast majority of non-religious families do not circumcize their boys, so it's really only in the US and to some extent here in Canada (although we have a lower rate than you guys, it's still higher than Europe etc.) that it's becoming kind of a 'thing'.

Can someone please give me a graphic description (or a link) of the difference? I've asked my BF whether he's cut and he can't give me an answer becasue he doesn't know. And since I've dealt with a very limited number of penises, I don't know the difference either. And I'm too embarrassed to research it on his computer (mine doesn't have net access)

with an uncircumsized penis, the foreskin is an extra layer of skin that surrounds the penis (not entirely, but most of it). it'skind of like a wrapper (or a hoodie.)

oh man, i am so glad i posted about this!

honey, that robert mapplethorpe reference made me crack up!

mia, sometimes i think we are internet soulmates. did you just research the topic for your own edification? i did a lot of internet reading on the topic in college (the height of my anti-circumcision madness) so i know what you mean about the fact that the loss of the foreskin might not make a huge difference. but like you, i don't really like the idea of messing with nature. i guess the only problem is that it is supposed to hurt like a mofo to get snipped as an adult (actually probably as soon as one is ambulatory it become a problem). i've heard that non-religious circumcision is on the decline as well so maybe by the time any boys of mine hit puberty, it won't be a big deal.

lilykind, that's so weird that your bf doesn't know! actually, i remember my sister said that when she started going out with her bf (who was maybe 17 at the time) for some reason he thought he was uncut and she got all freaked out and was crying ! but it turns out he is circumcised.

ok this is a drawing so it's not very graphic.
http://medicalimages.allrefer.com/large/circumcised-vs-uncircumcised.jpg

this is an entire page devoted to the foreskin and has photos of every possible state and angle.

you know what, now that i'm harkening back to my days with the uncut ex, i kind of think that hoodies are a bit more fun.

OK thanks so much honey and cc! Now I feel better. BF is circumcised for sure.

And considering that I've never seen an uncircumcised guys, I'd probably feel pretty weird about it. But maybe that's just my limited sexual experience coming out...

cc - yeah, I checked it out out of curiosity when a couple of my friends got into a screaming match over it (I had no idea it was so heated). Both sides seem able to produce studies to support their version, but if even one of those studies indicating a possible lack of sensation etc. is true then - well, again, it is NOT my decision to make that for any sons of mine. I still think at 18, uncut, there is a choice - if they felt super super strongly about it, they could do it. There is also evidence suggesting that circ'ed newborns are more stressed out, flinch more etc. I am not claiming this as fact because I am not too familiar with the studies themselves but even the chance of them having some truth in them causes me to decide against circ. Bottom line for me is: 1)not my decision 2)medically not necessary (I don't buy the hygiene thing - there really are no studies to say it's a problem hygiene wise) and 3)I have no wish to cause any pain, however temporary and 'forgettable', to any infant of mine.

Yay! I have an internet soulmate! Except be can't share clothes because you are too tiny. Boo.

I have been with both in between, then I married and uncut European. Frankly I have been with more uncut then cut and have never experienced that cleaneness issue that others have spoke about.

My thoughts are if the guy is clean, what is the big deal? Its not a "feeling" issue here, it all feels the same and aesthetically I am not turned off by what nature gave them.

If I had a son I would not circumcize him, if the pain numbing cream is the answer it would be his choice when he was an adult. I am not into messing what mother nature gave you in those regions!
