proposal - help my friend, please!
Permalink Closed

One of my friends is going to propose, and we have a practical question: he was going to give her the ring in a box, but that seems pretty unromantic (stuffy, I guess) to me. What do you guys think? Also, they're going on vacation for a week, and she probably suspects that he'll propose then. So he wants to give her some other gift at the beginning of the week so she's not expecting the ring. Any ideas of how to do that well, without being too confusing/mean? Thanks!

I think he should give her a small piece of jewelry at the start of the trip then she won't suspect another one at the end. I personally like to see the ring in a box I see it as classic not stuffy but it really depends on his style.

Earrings are good. small and easy to present. if he is going to go with jewlery. Without knowing the girls it's difficult to suggest a meaningful little something

i think his plan sounds really good!

maybe he could make sure that whatever jewelry he buys to give her earlier in the week is in a box that is definitely not a ring box. that way she won't get her hopes up when she sees it. also he can try to present it in a more casual manner, i.e. not at a romantic dinner or anything like that.

good ideas by cc. you don't want her to get angry, ESP if she's expecting a proposal. of course she'll be very pleasantly surprised later w/the real thing, but no reason to make her angry...this happened to a friend who thought she was getting proposed to when he was shoping her cuflinks. it was like in a movie where he actually really droped the box, tapped her to make her turn around and showed her the CUFFLINKS as he ws getting up. she nearly had a heart attack then flipped out bc she thought he was tricking her. she was too mortified and angry to even talk to him and how could he not know what she would think he was doing. poor thing (both of them) the cufflinks were new and he was going to wear them that night out to dinner when we really proposed. it sounded too stupid when she told us, but it's true!
