I have been swamped lately (wonder why?) and have not had an opportunity to go look for a dress. I know it's not black tie, and I'm trying to figure out an outfit with what I have...
I have a black cashmere gucci tank with a similar cut to this - it has a super deep keyhole in the back that is secured at the neck with a gunmetal chain/hook - I also have a matching cardigan for this - that I am not sure I want to wear
some of you may remember this skirt from last year (this is not me - it was the only pic I could find on the web!)
these clergerie boots
I have standard blahnik pumps too (similar to these) - but I was wanting to wear boots (we are expecting a high temp of 31 today)...
I also have a very fitted black pencil skirt as an option
I have a white fur collar - mine is much fuller than this but is around the same length - I was thinking I could wear it overlapped at the ends and secured with a rhinestone brooch - this would make it come up close around my neck - something like this only in white fox
I also remember someone posting about how a woman wore long black gloves and boots and how great she looked... I have vintage black leather gloves - could look cool with a diamond bracelet worn on top...
ok - so some of the options I have thought of are
1. black tank, beaded skirt, boots, gloves
2. black tank, pencil skirt, boots, fur collar/rhinestone brooch?
3. black tank, pencil skirt, pumps, fur collar/rhinestone brooch?
4. black tank, matching black cardigan wrapped and secured with a rhinestone brooch, pencil skirt, pumps or boots?
My hair too - one length with bangs - straight or should I hot roller?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Ok - I thought about this combo too but was worried it might be too much - but I love the idea of the stole and gloves together. I do have fabric gloves, but I can't seem to find them! speaking from an etiquette perspective, would leather be inappropriate if I can't find the fabric ones?

I really love the idea of black leather gloves with a cool bracelet if you think that wouldn't be too funky for this event. If you decide to go for that look, I think it would work best with the black tank, pencil skirt and boots or heels - the stole would be too much.
Hey girl - I vote for the pencil skirt, the gucci top (UGH, the jealousy over here about that!), the pumps, collar, brooch, and gloves (I would do either the boots or the gloves, because the visual I am getting makes the boots and the gloves sort of redundant... like they are the same thing but just on different appendages if that makes any sense. Either covered arms or legs but not both, is what I mean. Maybe I a am just being too traditional, though.I am a little worried also about the length of the pencil skirt vs. height of the boots. You have to have a few inches of skin for this to work.
edit: actually, now I am thinking the boots might be hot.
The hair would be good either way... I think the outfit is sort of sleek and Audrey, so I'd do the hair straight and shiny hanging down your back... or even in a chignon.
I love the classic chic of this idea, though. You'll stand out in a good way.

yes - I see what you mean about leather-clad appendages :) - needs some balance... I'll try both on and see what feels right. if I do wear pumps - fishnets or not? if so - nude or black? I am liking the idea of the chignon - esp. with the fur collar and the rest of the look - very audrey. I may have my husband take some pictures before we go so I can post them...

nude fishnets. Black would be too much. Keep it simple... small diamond stud earrings if any with the stole and brooch. Little clutch. Sophisticated makeup... maybe a neutral face with a red lip, black mascara top only (maybe line top lid, but keep it soft - with such a retro outfit, a harsh line might look costumey) . Yes - post pics! You'll be lovely.

I did have a really good time - beautiful mansion, as many cosmos as I could suck down before dinner, and they had some of Mrs. Dodge's 1920-30's evening gowns on display through the mansion... a really nice time...
