shopping w/friend vent
Permalink Closed

I'm so annoyed with my friend L. We were shopping last night (I hate shopping with other people) and we spent so much time looking in the stores that she likes that by the time we got to BCBG the store was closing and I had hardly any time to look at anything. AND to make matters worse I saw an awesome pair of pants that were 50% off! I didn't even have time to try them on. Arrrg!

I swear I'm never shopping with her again. We spent hours looking in "glitter" stores, y'know the girlie jewelry stores where everything is pink/glittery/feathery/fluffy?  And she made me look in what I call "Junior slut" stores. Stores that cater to really young girls in waaay too tight clothing. I'm pretty sure I'm too old for Sirens and so is she. (do you guys have Sirens in the States? its terrible. It is so cheap and trashy)

Plus she embarassed me by ranting in Guess about how the store was "too expensive". I am just really irritated with her right now and had to vent, sorry.

Hey BCBG is having a sale starting Friday with stuff marked at 50% or more off the regular price so if you can hold out till then you might get a better deal.

I don't think I could go shopping with friends either.  I have a hard enough time shopping with my mom.  I think I'd kill a nonblood relative in a store if I had to go through the hell you did.  I don't have siren near me but I'd be willing to bet its just like rave which I hate and is a trashy juniors store.

That's the worst. I really don't like shopping with other people, unless its just fun window shopping. I'm such a pushover that I always let them drag me whever they want to go. Just try to think of it as a good deed!

i cannot stand when people comment about a store being too expensive.  they always do it in that way that they want everyone around to hear, and it is sooo embarassing.

Ugh, I hate when I have a bad friend shopping experience.

There's only 2 people I will go shopping with:  my best friend because she and I have exactly the same shopping styles and my husband because he is very patient.

Here is the strategy I have learned.

Go to the mall/store with your friend. Establish a time and place you are going to meet again, and go by yourself to the stores you like. I usually do that in 1 hour slots: we meet after one hour, we decide if we want to stay more, or we have coffe/ smtg to eat, we chat a little, show each other the stuff we just bought, and we go again each by herself. I think it's more fun to comment at the end about what you bought, and you an really check out only the stores you are interested in (I mean, if you need a lipstick, why do you need to go to Crate and Barrel?)

I would have died if I missed that BCBG sale!  NEVER SHOP WITH FRIENDS!

The only friend that I can stand to shop with and I have a system.  She likes a lot of those juniors stores and I like more upscale stores.  Usually, for every store that I like, there is a store she likes right next to or across from it.  We then go in our stores and the first person done goes and meets the other person in their store.  There are only a couple times where we would end up having to suffer through being in the other's store because there was nothing good nearby.  And we both like Banana Republic and Arden B so that works out.

You ladies all have such good shopping strategies. I love shopping with my Mom and one of my good girl friends, but that's about it. I have a couple of friends that I can only shop with if I'm in the mood to NOT shop for clothes - they only like Bath and Body works and stuff like that so I stock up on lotion and soap and all of that stuff with them. I prefer shopping alone... or online!

A bad shopping trip can really strain a friendship...

The only people who I can go with is my mother and sister. We have the same taste. I usually go to the mall more often with my sister, she is the always the one helping me make a final decision. From previous experiences for me its akward to shop with my friends.

Go back to BCBG Thursday night, they will start arranging stuff to get ready for the next day, and there will be stuff 70% off, go early b/c all the good stuff will be gone, most of the 70% off stuff is crap, but a lot of times if a certain item does really well, then they will produce way too many and then they will have to mark it down that low b/c they have too many. Also always check more than one store, if you have one in your area , b/c sometimes they will mark the wrong things down, or miss things too...

On your friend that does stink, and what an appropriate name for those stores, "glitter" stores! I love it.

BrazenCandian, I totally feel your pain with your friend! I love my best friend to pieces and we used to go shopping together when we were both still in high school, broke as all heck and going to Forever 21, H&M and Wet Seal to split outfit purchases (we were the same size).

But then I visited her in NYC last August and, well, she was complaining about how much walking we were doing to get to places. I usually am no stranger to walking miles a day and really fast too, but she told me that at the ned of the day that she'd probably walked more that day than she normally does in a whole week. She also wasn't in a spendy mood and I was because I wanted to hit every NYC store I could that doesn't exist on the West Coast (H&M, Zara, tons of boutiques, etc.). Plus her taste has pretty much stayed the same (Jersey girl/punk combo) and mine has changed drastically. And the fact I lost three dress sizes and she'd gained one since leaving HS didn't help matters since we couldn't split outfits anymore.

My friend does this all the time!  She only shops at Old Navy (which is fine, I like Old Navy).  One time I dragged her into this really expensive boutique that I couldn't have afforded but I just wanted to look at.  I wanted to try on this gorgeous cami and as I was asking the saleslady for a room she goes, "You can't afford a $300 tank top!"  Arrrghgghh.

I hate shopping w/ other people...I used to go shopping w/ my best friend, but she will enter a store, give a glance around and then stare at me until I'm done. The pressure! Or if I'll pick up something expensive my best friend or my mom just give me a glare of disapproval...I can't stand it! So now we don't shop together anymore. The only way I'll go shopping w/ someone is if I am on a mission to find something and they strictly help me out. Or if someone else has a mission and I'll just help them. But for general browsing and shopping, I "just say no!"
