dark nail polish

I've seen a few women wearing really dark nail polish, like Gwen Stephani in the What you waiting for? video, on short square nails. It seems to be a really dark brown/black. I think its really pretty and doesn't look all gothic like straight black. But I haven't found the right color like it. Can anyone recommend a color and brand?

I recommend this:

in Non stop Cocoa.  This is the best nail polish ever - it dries completely in less than 10 minutes and does NOT chip for AT LEAST 7 days.  I recently tried another brand (see my product rant) and nothing compares to this.

Chanel Vamp is the way to go. It's such a classic, well at least from the mid 1990s. I wear it on my toes all during winter. I like it because it looks great if I wear either gold or silver evening sandals.

So going dark on nails is still okay right? I just bought a deep burgundy nail polish and I read on Marie Clair yesterday that dark is out and lights are in. Thoughts?

Just a note to be careful about the Revlon stuff that was posted above -- yes, it does last, but it near impossible to get off. Also, I have it in bright red, and while very pretty, it stains my fingernails, so when I take it off, my nails are yellow. Ick!

Brazen Canadian, I'm glad you posted this because it's something I've been wondering as well.  And secondly, I love your avatar. :)

What remover are you using?  I use Once Removed, which is an oil-based remover that has no scent whatsoever-you just brush it on, wait for it to dissolve the polish, and wipe it off.  I don't ever have a problem taking it off.

I read somewhere and I think it may have been November's Allure that dark brown with a tinge of red was big in nailcolor right now.

When I read that I instantly thought of Chanel's Vamp, its a classic.

Just be sure to wear a very good base coat or you'll have the inevitable staining.
