Vegas Restaurants

Okay, I have to make reservations for dinner for when I go out to Vegas.  I'm thinking that I want to try Prime (it's an upscale steakhouse in the Bellagio).  Has anyone eaten there?  Is it decent? What's the atmosphere like?

I was thinking of trying Nobu (sushi!!) and Aqua as well. I've already eaten at Picasso's and Buccaneer Bay, so I'd like to try something else. Other suggestions are welcome as well.

I've been to Prime and I've eaten at the Nobu in Malibu.  Prime is really good - great food and swanky atmosphere.  It's pretty quiet and upscale, but not stuffy.  The steaks are great.  Nobu is also terrific, but a totally different crowd.  It's in the Hard Rock, which is always a lot wilder and more scene-y than Bellagio.  They're both pricey, although I would guess that Nobu will be more expensive since the portions are not very big.

Some other recommendations: Shintaro, the Japanese place at Bellagio, is my favorite restaurant in Vegas.  Make sure you can reserve a table by the window.  The sushi is excellent and their regular entrees (especially the sea bass) are fantastic!  Aureole in Mandalay is also really really good and Postrio (a Wolfgang Puck restaurant) at the Venetian is excellent.

We just made plans to go for New Years.  I'm so excited!  When will you be there?

there is a fantastic restuarant in the Monte Carlo, just off of the main casino. I believe it is called the Market City. Its italian and not expensive and the food is amazing!

We always eat at the buffet at Harrahs, its really good if you're into buffets. Really good fresh seafood, tons of choices. I think it is one of the best buffets on the strip.

We also always have to eat at Nathan's Famous hot dogs in NY NY, just because they are so good and we can't get them in Canada.

I'll actually be there for New Year's as well.  We'll be there for four days. What are you planning for New Year's Eve? Are you going to a club/lounge or something else?

We'll be there Thursday thru Sunday.  I'm actually going with my husband and our families (including our parents!!), and we haven't really figured out yet what we're doing for New Years Eve.  We may not do anything crazy - like a nice dinner somewhere - or we may go to dinner with the parents and then go out with our brothers.  I really doubt we'll leave the hotel, since it is OUT OF CONTROL on the strip that night.  But it's really fun.  I was there a few years ago for NYE and we went to Light in the Bellagio - it was an awesome night!  That place is still my favorite club in Vegas, and they just opened a bar called Caramel right next to it which is pretty fun too.  We saw Tara Reid and Pete Sampras when we were there a couple of months ago.

Do you know yet what you're doing that night?

I think we're going to Prime for dinner and then I was actually thinking about going to Light. I've heard good things about it. What's it like there?

Light is FUN FUN FUN!! I'm not sure what type of music they'll be playing that night, but they've always played really fun music everytime I've been there in the past - fun club music, nothing too techno-y.  I'm sure it will be out of control on NYE, of course, but just plan for that and you'll be fine.  Also, are you staying at Bellagio or somewhere really close by?  If you're staying somewhere farther away, keep in mind that it will be IMPOSSIBLE to get around the strip that night, so it might be hard to get to the Bellagio or back to your hotel.  We're staying at Mandalay Bay, so we're not even going to try to make it all the way to Bellagio.

Here is Light's website (it looks like there is some NYE info there):

We're staying in New York New York, but I think we're going to be in Mandalay Bay for NYE. We have dinner reservations there and I think we're going to be going to some kind of event there as well. I wish we were staying in Mandalay Bay (it's my favorite hotel there), but not everyone in the group wanted to stay there. New York New York isn't too far from Mandalay Bay and it's the opposite direction from The Strip craziness, so we should be good, right?
