I currently am a buyer. I buy produce which is perishable and only has a week of shelf life or so.
I used to be a buyer for a bridal chain and bought gowns and accessories.
I guess the most important things to stress are responsiblity, good with math/numbers, good computer skills, negotiation skills, understanding of the supply chain, good understanding of what you will be buying, willingness to learn and just act excited about the job! Also, ask for the job!! I have read you should ask about 3 times during the interview.

I look forward to working with you/ in this department, etc.
I would really like the opportunity to work with you/ for you.
If you give me the opportunity, I could benefit your department/company/etc.
Assuming the job will be yours in your speech...What will my day to day responsiblilities be? What would a typical day be like for me?
Of course, these are just off the top of my head and I have a cold so I am not very creative today. But you would want to use what feels comfortable for you and in your own words and whatever fits the conversation at the time. just try one in the middle to end and one as a closing statement if it feels right.
A job search book or a google search could give you more ideas... Good luck!!
