I saw that Ally was looking for some good hors d'oeuvres recipes so I thought we could all post some here.

My grandmother made these spinach ricotta balls for Thanksgiving and they were a huge hit. The recipe is similar to spinach gnocchi but she just served them on toothpicks. I'm not sure if this is the exact recipe that she used, but it looks pretty close.

I've made these bacon wrapped dates a few times and they were really popular. This recipe says to microwave them, but I've always just baked them on a cookie tray in the oven.


For a festive twist on twice-baked potatoes, my sister came up with this technique (I don't know where she originally saw it so I don't have a recipe). Buy a bunch of the tiny red potatoes, cut them in half and cut a tiny sliver off the bottoms so they can stand up on a tray. Brush them with olive oil, sprinkle them with salt, and roast them in the oven for about 20 minutes (just make sure to take them out before they completely bake). Make a batch of mashed potatoes - you can use whatever kind you prefer, just make sure they come out very smooth. I think a more flavorful recipe, like one that uses garlic, spices or sour cream is best, but it doesn't matter. Put the mashed potatoes in an icing bag with a fairly big tip. Take the red potatoes out of the oven and let them cool a bit. Pipe a swirl of mashed potatoes onto the halved red potatoes, put them back in the oven and bake until the mashed potatoes start to turn a little brown.

Mmm, CC, your picture is making me hungry!


I have a simple holiday appetizer that I've used and have gotten rave reviews (actually it's my friend's recipe so I shouldn't take credit).


Take one log of chevre/goat cheese, top with sundried tomatoes, fresh chopped basil, pine nuts, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.  Serve with crackers and veggies. 


This pairs well with wine and the colors are very festive looking.

I have a great recipe for finger foods...I don't know what they are called, so you can get creative and name them yourself...


4 oz. cream cheese, softened


1/2 C chopped cooked chicken


1/4 C chopped fresh cilantro


2-3 Tablespoons finely chopped sliced jalepeno chiles


2 Tablespoons finely chopped green onions


1/8 teaspoon salt


1-8oz can of Pillbury crescent rolls

Heat Oven 375


Mix all ingredients except dough. Unroll dough and seperate into 2 long rectangles.  press perforations to seal.  Spread 1/2 of mixture onto each rectangle to within 1/2 inch of edge.  Starting with long side, roll up.  press seam to seal.  cut each roll into 16 pieces.  place slices most recently cut side down on ungreased sheet.  bake at 375 for 14-16 minutes.  Serve warm.

a flittle extra tip...I don't like green onions, so I bought the chive flavored cream cheese and it works great.  They are so good.  It makes like 32 pieces, I always have to double it...they go quickly.

indiekitten, those are actually the twice baked potatoes. except since it was halloween, i used purple potatoes for half the batch and red potatoes mashed with bits of carrots for the other half.
