What in the hell happened at the end?! Is Jin actually dead, or has Sun been fooled into thinking he's dead? I paused the DVR when it showed his grave marker and it had a date of September 2004 (I think the 22nd) -- is that the date of the plane crash? And then when Sun saw the man in the suit outside her hospital room and thought it might be Jin -- I wondered if the actor playing Jin was really supposed to represent a businessman in general and not Jin, if I'm making sense.
The captains comments about how a person with vast resources being behind the Oceanic 815 cover-up made me wonder if Sun's dad is connected with Charles Widmore -- both rich and powerful, both had daughters who fell in love with men they looked down on.
Michael as the spy did not come as a surprise, but I am still excited he's back.
I thought this was the weakest ep so far in the season. The whole convo / scenario with Jin and Bernard was just wasted viewing time, IMO. And the whole thing just didn't hang together well, IMO. I did find what the captain revealed to be interesting and am not sure what the hell is going on with the Jin / Sun sections. Did we see a flash back for Jin and a flash forward for Sun? I told DH when we watched that sequence that the guy didn't even look like Jin to me. I'm confused and ready to go on to next week's show.

I disagree that this episode wasn't great. It didn't have as many cliffhangers or twist/turns but it was very emotional. I cried, I'll admit it. I'm terribly sad Jin died but I'm holding out hope that there's more to the story.
Very confusing. I thought Jin isn't actually dead. I also think that the Panda Bear was supposed to be some kind of sign to Sun that he knows the baby is born. That's why it was a big deal for him to have the Panda and that is why he paid so much for the second one. Not sure why would they tell him it was a boy when it was actually a girl.
I didn't realize until the end but I think the whole Jin w/ the Panda thing was a flashback...and obviously Sun and the birth story was a flashforward. I'm guessing Jin must get killed in the next few episodes...although I think the date on the grave was Sept 22 which I think was the day the plane crashed...but I'm not really hung up on that because we already know that the story the "Oceanic 6" tells the real world is not what happened on the island...

But the woman in the room he brought the panda to wasn't Sun ...?
I think Jin's scene was a flashback, and Sun's scene was a flash forward too Sweatergirl. Jin also said he'd only been married 2 months, so that's another point towards his being a flashback.

Agreed that Jin's was a flashback and Sun's was a flash-forward. The whole married two months thing was the clincher for me on that.
I need to rewatch the episode because I missed some parts, but overall, I think this was a great episode. I thought it was great when Sayid told the captain that he supposed he (the captain) wouldn't tell them who owned the boat and the captain said, "of course I will." Or something like that. So atypical of LOST to reveal so much and in such an outright fashion.
I had suspected Michael as the spy as soon as Ben said he had someone on the boat. That, and Harold Perineau (or whatever his name is) has been in the credits all season and finally appeared yesterday.
And maybe Jin isn't dead. Maybe he stayed on the island for some reason and since the Oceanic 6 have the whole cover-up going, Sun is going along with Jin being dead. Then, that would make sense that the date is the day of the plane crash. Besides, Aaron should technically be one of the Oceanic 6 since everyone assumes he's Kate's son, which means that the six are Kate, Hurley, Jack, Sun, Aaron and Sayid. Jin probably isn't part of the six and he's probably still on the island.
The more I've thought about it the more I think Jin had a flashback to the man he used to be back when he worked for Sun's dad (also, that was not Sun he brought the panda to), and Sun's was a flash forward to her future. I also wonder if Jin is still on the island for some reason, and that Sun is going along with pretending he died on September 22 in the plane crash. I always love Jin/Sun episodes and thought this was one of the better ones of the season so far.
I liked this episode, actually. I always think Jin and Sun make a good story and this was no different. I had a hunch throughout the episode that the writers were intentionally making Jin's story vague so they could reveal it was a flash back and not a flash-forward. I'm dying to know what happens to him--is he really dead or is he still alive on the island? I'm thinking he's probably really dead since there's a grave and Sun really seemed to act like he was dead. And I'm definitely curious as to why Hurley went all the way to Korea to visit her, especially given that no one else did. That all seems a little bizarre to me.
As far as the boat captain goes, I thought he was telling the truth, but then that note told Sayid and Desmond not to trust him. So I'm confused there. And why is Michael now Kevin? I can't wait to find out what has happened with him since he left the island two seasons ago.

I'm interested to see how future episodes with the captain go down, too. Michael can't tell the peeps on the boat he's Michael, because they have all the info on the people who were on the plane, and they'd know he was one of them. How did he get hooked up with these people though, what with the vortex thingy hanging out offshore?

But is Aaron really part of the Oceanic 6? I know he's back but he wasn't on the manifold (technically since he wasn't born yet) so does he really count as one of the 6? I'm not sure...

I think Aaron counts since they told us in the previews that the last of the Oceanic 6 will be revealed this past week. That, combined with the September 22 date on the tombstone is the clincher for me that Jin never left the island. And even if he's really not dead, being stuck on that island that no one will ever find again is as good as being dead and Sun would probably be just as distraught. And we all know Ben is capable of lots of crazy things, so producing a body and passing it off as Jin's (even with DNA) wouldn't be so tough for him. Since, you know, he found 300 dead bodies to stage the crash.
"Since, you know, he found 300 dead bodies to stage the crash."
Are we sure about this, though? I mean, I know this was what the captain was implying, but how is that even possible? Are we sure it's not some crazy time travelling/parallel universe type of thing?

I have two theories about that: 1) Ben used the bodies from the dead Dharma members that he gassed. 2) Oceanic flight 815 is in two parallel universes. So, the plane that they found with the dead bodies really was filled with the Losties, but in another time sequence. In the other time sequence, their plane crashed on the island and they survived, which is the show as we know it.

I will be so disappointed if your second theory is correct. The whole time travel thing pisses me off. As much as I loved Back to the Future, I'm tired of the Marty McFly moments that keep coming up in LOST. I am, however, okay with the dimensional rip because that's not really time travel, per se.
Also, I think the first theory (or something similar) positions Ben as an even more oddly powerful and connected man, which is what the writers are trying to push, it seems. I subscribe to this theory, although, I'm not completely sold on the dead Dharma bodies being the bodies he used. Another reason I think this theory is closer to the truth is because the a few episodes ago when they showed footage of the plane on the news and that guy (can't remember his name) who was supposed to be piloting the plane made a phone call and said that couldn't be the right wreckage because the pilot wasn't wearing his wedding band. If it were time travel/alternate reality, shouldn't the pilot still have his wedding band on?
Anyway, too many things make me think that the first theory is more accurate.
Okay, so now, after watching last week's episode, they're saying that Whidmore planted the bodies after having dug them up from graves in Thailand. So the people on Whidmore's boat are blaming Ben, and Ben's people are blaming Whidmore. I wonder who is right?
