I think I have fungus underneath my toenails. I had noticed it before but last night when I took off my nailpolish I saw that it had gotten worse. Have any of ya'll ever had this problem? My dad said I would have to go to a doctor soon but is there anything I can do mean while?
If it recently started, get to the doctor as soon as you can. It's best to catch that stuff early before it spreads and gets worse. I don't know what they'll suggest for you.
Well, actually I think painting your nails makes toenail fungus grow & worsen because your toenails can't "breathe" - so you might want to keep that off until you get to the dr.

They make OTC stuff for toenail fungus, which is indeed best treated ASAP. Otherwise it can make it all the way down to the nail base even prescription meds usually won't touch it. I'd look for the spray OTC stuff, and try to get it underneath the nail if you can.
I doubt the doc would give you the prescription anti-fungal without you trying the OTC stuff first. The rX is pretty hard on your liver (requires blood draws every couple months) and is quite expensive, often even with insurance.

Another option is that it could be a bruise. I bruise my toenails all the time. At first I thought it was a fungus as well but then I realized it grew out as my toenails grew out, hence bruise. Now I know which shoes cause the bruises so I'm not alarmed if I wear them and notice it. (I don't wear those shoes anymore but occasionally I have to pull out the beauty over comfort heels, ya know?)

You know, I think I have a bruise under the nail of my big toe, and it will not go away! I noticed I got it when I started wearing this pair of shoes that squish my feet some. How long did it take your bruise to go away?
But if it were just a bruise, isn't it like a darker color? Mine is just white and it stops kind of half way down the toenail. It doesn't hurt or anything but I have been letting my feet "breathe" more lately. There's a lot going on right now but I'll try to get my dad to make an appointment soon.
Is it possible you could have just hit your toe on something? Nails sometimes respond to damage with white areas/spots, so it might not be fungus. Fungus usually starts toward the sides/end of the nail and looks sort of yellowish.

Yep, I agree. Sometimes when I wear polish all the time, my nails will turn an off color, but you can put a baking soda paste on them and they will go back to looking like normal nails. Polish all the time doesn't allow them to breathe and they will gets spots.

It depends. If I continue to wear the shoes that cause the bruise, it will continually stay there, in the same place. Once I stop wearing the shoes, it grows out a little slower than my toenail, if that makes sense. It takes awhile for them to go away, especially if I keep re-bruising.
