I've been there!  I wasn't staying there but we went for dinner I think, I love West End Road, tons of good restaurants and it's not nearly as touristy as the beach resorts.  You'll need a taxi if you want to go to the beach though which is really fun at night because there's always live reggae music on the beach and you can walk up and down and visit different hotel bars and places to eat.  De Bus was my favorite place to watch the live reggae shows plus they make awesome jerk chicken that you can buy and eat outside.  Have fun!  I'm so jealous if you can't tell lol.
