Here's my list, which is a hodgepodge of movies that I loved, movies that I am itching to see again, and movies that I thought were well-done or interesting. They aren't really in any order but I do think Ratatouille is my #1 choice.
1. Ratatouille 2. Margot at the Wedding 3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 4. Control 5. Starting Out in the Evening 6. Michael Clayton 7. Zodiac 8. 3:10 to Yuma 9. There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men (tie because I had similarly mixed feelings about both of them) 10. The Bourne Ultimatum
N.B. I didn't see Eastern Promises, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Away from Her (which is inexcusible because I adore Julie Christie), 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and a ton of other movies on critics' lists (this Village Voice one is pretty comprehensive).
I can't even remember what all I've seen this year, so I'm basing my list off the Village Voice one you posted. There might be other stuff I can't think of.
Some of my faves:
Ratatouille Michael Clayton (probably my favorite this year) There Will Be Blood No Country for Old Men Eastern Promises Sweeney Todd Juno Shoot 'Em Up
I was sort of underwhelmed by 3:10 to Yuma, I don't know why, and I love Christian Bale. Same with HP and the Order of the Phoenix...the book was just so good I think I was a little disappointed.
1. I love Rataouille, too! It was my favorite movie of the year. 2. No Country for Old Men 3. Sweeney Todd 4. Michael Clayton 5. Eastern Promises (Viggo was strangely hot as a Russian Mafia guy...) 6. There Will Be Blood (I enjoyed this movie, and think Daniel Day-Lewis should win for best actor)
I have "bad taste" in movies (according to my bf -the film producer) so none of these will be award winners
#1 Lars and the real girl. (What a fantastic movie, I highly recommend it) 2 The Simpsons movie (i know I know, but I loved it) 3 Oceans 13 4 Sweeney Todd 5 Alpha Dog 6 Bourne Ultimatum 7 Death Proof (But not Planet Terror) 8 I am Legend 9 Pirates OTC 3 10 No Country for Old Men
I wasn't crazy about 3:10 and i still waiting to see Eastern Promises & There will be Blood but I want to see them asap
After the Oscars, but here are my favorite movies of the year.
Assination of Jesse James... For the record I Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck both annoy me and I still enjoyed this movie. The critics said this movie was long and slow but I didn't find that to be the case and I really enjoyed it.
3:10 to Yuma... I really like this. Not just because of my 2 boyfriends Russell Crowe and Christian Bale (he's been my movie boyfriend since Newsies), but because I love Ben Foster. He's so talented and I love watching him.
Stardust. Obviously not a Oscar winner but I thought this was really entertaining.
Charlie's Wilson's War. It was short and entertaining.
I just saw Michael Clayton and I really didn't love it. I didn't hate it but I didn't think it was all that great.
