I caught a bit of that in some of the interviews I read. I'd still love for him to be a part of the discussion. Can you imagine HRC and Obama bouncing off his points in the debates? They'd seem like such suits!

I like both Obama and Clintion policy-wise, but many of the differences (like their stances on universal health care) seem like splitting hairs to me. I think I've falled for the Obama-as-agent-of-change business. And I REALLY REALLY love Michelle Obama. To me, she's definitely a modern Jackie O yet she's easy to relate to and damn smart in her own right.

I'm super-duper excited to vote. I moved twice last year and didn't get a sample ballot but I called the county registrar to find out my polling place. Phew!

On a side note, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the REpublican debates, if only because Ron Paul is STILL there saying things and discussing the problems with monetary policies that basically piss off the other candidates. I think I'm easily amused...

blubirde, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Gravel! He's still totally my candidate. Did anyone read the interview with him today on Jezebel? I think a huge problem with government today is there are so many structures in place that prevent any real "change" (barf, I'm so sick of that word) that neither Clinton or Obama are prepared to challenge. The Israel lobby is going to continue defining US interests in the Middle East and the military industrial complex is still going to be pushing us toward war (everyone should see this movie). Both of their approaches to the enviroment involve finding new sources of energy and creating new "Green" jobs--something that will only increase consumption which is the real environmental problem. I could go on and on.

I don't actually get to vote (I won't be in the state in which I'm registered when caucauses are held), but I still keep going back and forth about whom I want to win. This Newsweek article by Fareed Zakaria really sums up exactly how I feel about Obama--while I cringe at the idea of voting for identity politics, I think Obama's life experience has led to a unique, international world view that the US is in dire need of. However, I think universal healthcare is an extremely important step away from the "rugged individualism" that is ruining America and moves toward a more communitarian (not communist!) view of society and Clinton is way ahead of Obama on that.

I guess the main voting issue for me is I want Americans to start realizing that they are part of a community--local, national, global--and they need to start making decisions that reflect that. Clinton and Obama just approach this in different ways.

So yeah, I'm excited for Super Tuesday. Was that the question?

This NYT article does a really good job of explaining why their policies are actually very different. I know it's impossible to sort this stuff out from the debates where they just accuse each other of hating children and poor people.

I did! I did! 1) I love Jezebel. 2) I love Annonymous Lobbyist. 3) I haven't read Wonkette since she was fired. Boo Wonkette.

I can't even tell you the amount of struggling I've had to do with who to vote for. Luckily for my decision-making process only, Edwards has left the building. Gravel's not on the Texas ballot, so he's out as well. That leaves Obama and Clinton. I'm torn, 49/51. The 51% switches back and forth but is currently leaning towards Barry. I love me some Obama magic! Every once in awhile my head catches up with my heart, but it's a crazy, wild ride I've got going on over here. It's an embarassment of riches, really.

Lilykind - how exciting to be in Cali right now! It's definitely the happening, political place. I'll be up late waiting for all you West-Coasters to cast your votes and catch up with the rest of us who should be in bed. smile.gif

well, I wouldn't consider the demographics of Iowa or West Virginia reflective of the majority of the voters -- I'm not too concerned...

*lowers protective shield*
I heart.gif Huckabee. (hee-hee)...

Seriously though...I was thrilled when he decided to run. I love that he is who he says he is. I love that he wasn't afraid to speak out against President Bush (whom I also love...sad, but true). And i LOVE the fact that Chuck Norris did a campaign commercial for him. I think his tax plans may be a little out there, but possible...I love his conservative values...

just thought i would throw that out there...even though it doesn't look like he's going to win the nom....le sigh.

Now i guess i need to figure out which dem i need to root for....becaust i'm definitely NOT voting for Romney...he scares the hell out of me ("the house that Reagan built?" WTH??)....and i'm not sure that I really trust McCain...plus i think it will be interesting to see what an all democrat white house/congress can do. The repubs had our turn and it wasn't exactly stellar, so it would be an interesting two years to see what the dems could do.

I definitely think McCain is going to come out ahead, which is fine by me--I think he'd do okay as president, although probably not my first choice. Romney and Huckabee (especially Huckabee) scare me.

As far as Clinton and Obama go, I have no idea who will win. I don't know very much about either one of their positions, but I'm leaning more toward Obama. I think he's inspiring in a way my generation has never seen politicians be inspiring before (totally awkward sentence--my apologies). I personally can't stand John Edwards and I really hope he doesn't get the VP nomination, and I don't think he will. I think he'll get a cabinet position though if a Democrat is elected to the White House.

Total side note here, but did you all know that Romney is 61 years old? I'm certainly not a fan of his, politically, but day-um, I think he's good looking.  weirdface.gif

Sorry, I promise I'm not trying to attack you, but I'm just curious about this statement. Why do you love Bush if you think it's sad to do so?

Are you a commenter over there? I saw someone with your name and thought it must be you! I also love Anonymous Lobbyist...that was some ridiculous shit that went down about her getting fired. I'd love for Jezebel to find a place for her but I don't think that'll appen. Unless Moe quits or something, which actually seems like a possibility. (Why am I so obsessed with the politics of the Gawker Media Empire?)

Not that this would affect my voting ever, but...Barack Obama? So sexy.

I have the same name there as here, so it was probably me. I try not to post too often because I hate to get sucked in while I'm at work. Do you post? What's your name there? Totally off-topic for this post but do you think Moe will quit? I hope not, because I really love her voice. I do wish she'd translate a little better on political issues. Remember that stink that came up over her berating the Clintons? In retrospect I get what she was saying but at the time it really felt like a slap in the face, because I felt "safe" there, politically speaking and she kind of took that away.

And yeah, Obama? Certainly wouldn't hurt my eyes if I got to look at him on a regular basis. biggrin.gif

I'm watching MSNBC and man do I hate Chris Matthews. I don't hate him like I hate Bill O'Reilly but he's such a moron. Now he's on about McCain being able to carry blue states that Repubs usually don't carry (in the primary). I get the point he's trying to make so inarticulately, but hello! doesn't at least 1 REPUBLICAN have to win the REPUBLICAN PRIMARY even if it's in a blue state? And vice versa for the Dems? What a moron.

Romney repulses me so much. It all stems from his "funny" story about tying his dog to the roof of the car on a family vacation. I am a huge lover of animals and nothing pisses me off more then abuse and neglect, and I would never, ever, ever be able to look past such a thing or put any trust into someone who would think that would be okay to do and okay to talk about.

I know this isn't exactly the issues of the day, but its one of the most repulsive and awful things I've ever heard.

I'm done ranting (for now)

On that note, Go Obama!!!!

Did you see Obama's top 10 campaign promises when he was on Letterman? He promised to appoint Romney "Secretary of Lookin' Good." biggrin

I want to see an election where Gravel runs against Paul. LOL!

I am neutral on McCain. He used to be the president of my heart, but now he's a bit too warmongering. However, I find him WAY better than Romney.

I like both Obama and Clinton, but I like Obama more. I am sad that I can't vote (I am an independent).

Oh, but you CAN, HB! The democratic party will let you vote for their candidates - you just can't vote for a republican. smile.gif
