I don't wear much makeup to work during the day- usually just mascara and tinted moisturizer. I'd like to be a little more put together at work and wear a bit more makeup. But in all honesty, when it comes to makeup I usually only wear it for evening becuase I can be pretty heavy-handed with it. Smokey eye and gloss- great! Subtle pretty daytime makeup- I'm lost.
What do you wear for pretty, work appropriate makeup? How do you do a daytime face?
Just add a light, rosy blush (maybe a creme blush), put a little on the apples of your cheeks and then add a soft, shimmery eyeshadow allover your lids.
for everyday make up, I: put concealer under eyes and over dark spots (zits) put on loose powder a little blush on the apples of my cheeks and along the hairline a little brow make up (maybelline cake - comes with a little applicator brush - quick and easy - just use it to fill in spots and define my brows) eyeliner on top lid only (black eyeshadow applied with a mac eyeliner brush) mascara lip balm (on occasion I stain my lips (tarte) before the balm or apply a little lipstick on top of the balm)

I just put on foundation/concealor, mascara, and Revlon's Lipglide Sheer for just a little bit of color. If I'm feeling ambitious, I put on some sheer eyshadow - like a light or peach color.

this is basically what I do, except I use gel/cream blush and I usually wear sheer/light eyeshadow instead of eyeliner.

I'm like you Metric. I basically only wear a tinted moisturizer (or at most a powder) and mascara. But that's because I'm lazy in the morning. If I know I'm going to be meeting someone, I put a tiny bit more makeup on.
Try Stila's Kitten all over your lids. It's a pretty, beigeish, shimmery color. Ulta has a 20% off coupon right now that can be used for Stila eyeshadows. It's super easy to apply, I use my finger, and it adds a lot of pop to your eyes.
I also use Stila's Espresso as an eyeliner but any darker color will do. I use an angled brush and dot it on my upper eyelids and sometimes a tiny bit at the bottom. Halleybird says the CVS brushes (I forget the brand but you can search for it) are good.
Throw on a little blush on the apples of your cheeks (I use Nars Orgasm) and a lip color and you're good to go.
If I have dark circles or red spots or anything, I tap a tiny bit of concealer on after the moisturizer. Personally I could go crazy with concealer so I try to avoid looking at myself that hard in the morning.
I am such a nut. I wear full make-up every single day.
- light-weight foundation - Concealer under the eyes - blush - color in my brows w/ shadow and angle brush - base on my lids - shadow on the lid, crease, and a highlight - black liner in lash line - sweep some of whatever shadow I'm wearing (usually a bronze) as a liner on the bottom - tinted lip gloss
I wonder if you would do well with one of those convertible color compacts (the ones you can wear on lips, cheeks, and eyes).
Like Stila Convertible Color
or Nars Multiple (Orgasm)
You could also dust a little bronzer on your cheeks and lids and add a shimmery gloss. I like Cargo bronzer because it is easy to control (in medium or light).
As for daily makeup, I wear tinted moisturizer, powder, blush/bronzer, liner, shadow, mascara, gloss.
I think Trish McEvoy has good eyeshadows for work because they start sheer and you can build them up for more color. If i'm going to wear lipstick with a deeper color, I try to keep eyes more basic...maybe with a peach color on the lids and a sheer taupe in the crease, then add brown liner and mascara.
If I'm adding more color to my eyes, then I keep the lips lighter. Such as trish lilac on the lids with raisin in the crease. Then I add mac eyeliner in prunella and mascara.
I always wear blush....I just think it makes me look better. My fave at the moment is laura mercier in azalea.
i always have something on my lips. I like the labello cherry kiss chapstick- looks like you've eaten a popsicle. Or I dab on some lipstick- either in a berry, red, or pink usually. If I want to look freshfaced, I might add some mascara and that's it. When I want to feel slightly more put together, I brush on some powder, put on some blush (either nars orgasm or tarte stain in blushing bride), and add a neutral shimmery eye shadow- i have a shiseido one i like that is called shimmering sand or taupe or something. It is creamy and in a little pot. I don't usually use much more than that, though i do want to find a good tinted moisturizer.
I wear loose powder (although I am thinking of adding a powder foundation and concealer to my daily routine), cream blush, a light eyeshadow, mascara, and lip gloss/lipstick. For daily wear, I apply everything with a very light hand.
I think the best thing you could add is blush. Fashion Princess had a great idea.
concealer a bit of loose powder (Bare Essentuals Mineral Veil is great) some blush (I use Nars in Orgasm) fill in my brows if they need it eyeliner if I'm feeling ambitious mascara (after curling my eyelashes) lipgloss
I find that that amount of makeup usually does it for me and it takes about 5 minutes and it's really hard to overdo it. I'd check out Sephora or Ulta and get a nice, everyday blush--I find that it's blush more than anything that helps wake up my face.
Just add a light, rosy blush (maybe a creme blush), put a little on the apples of your cheeks and then add a soft, shimmery eyeshadow allover your lids.
ITA.
Just because everyone's sharing here's my crazy routine
Primer Mineral Foundation Concealer Clear Brow Gel Brow Pencil Eyeshadow base Shadow (usually a couple of shades) Eyeliner Mascara Primer Mascara Blush Mineral Veil
concealer under eyes, around the nose, on any blemishes loose powder over the concealer to set it blush (I like BeneFit Dandelion, because it's face-brightening but subtle) a swipe of brown eyeliner on my upper outer lid (I like Duck by MAC - doubles as a brow pencil) Shea butter on lips
Sometimes a light eyeshadow over the entire lid to brighten the eyes, too.
