So I forgot my login information to check my account, and I don't have my card or statement with me as I'm at work. I call CS to get my login information or my account number. They ask for my SSN#, verify my address, name, and phone number. Then the lady tells me they can't give me my account number! WTF. I talk to the supervisor, and he says the same thing. That it's to secure my 'privacy' and ensure that no one else can get it. WTF again! I said, 'if it's for my security and privacy, why did I give you my SSN#?' Then they say 'exactly, we need to know it was you, but we can't give you your information' (something along those lines). But it just totally negates the fact that they are asking for a much more important SSN# over the phone, only to deny giving me my account information. If I had known they couldn't help me what so ever, I wouldn't have called. Now I'm just pissed off.
Sorry, I just needed to get it out so I can go on with the day. Blah...
I'm sorry!! I worked at a bank for years and unfortunately they aren't legally suppose to give you your account number over the phone. I'm not sure why they went through the whole process of asking you for your SSN unless they thought you were just going to ask questions about your account (did a check clear, etc). It's all part of the Patriot Act that was passed after Sept 11th. I definitely understand why it's frustrating though!
