Maybe its just winter but I am in a major fashion rut. My office is super casual (everyone else wears jeans every single day. I have never seen my boss in trousers) and while I try to only keep jeans to Fridays, the rest of the week I am so uninspired. I pretty much wear cords and a sweater everyday. And its making me feel frumpy and blah.
Acessories tend to get in my way while I'm working- i can't type with bracelets, earrings bother me on the phone, etc. I don't really know how else to perk myself up.
My bf is offering to take me shopping for some new work wear (he is budgeting me $500). Any ideas for cute casual-yet-work appropriate tops and pants? (I have lots of cute skirts but its too darn cold!)
Banana Republic is having a HUGE sale right now. And New York & CO. is always nice for pretty button downs. They have some right now with metallic threads woven in so it adds something flashy to a classic shape.
Nice jackets will help to throw over the cords and sweaters to make your usual look a little more polished.
Are you having the most problems with pants or with tops? I've found that I have the most problem in dressing ruts with pants -- seeing as how I wear the same pants every day. Do you have a Gap nearby? I really like their cotton dress pants. They make that seersucker-type pants that I wear everyday in the summer. I've purchased a navy pair of the exact same pant and that's what I've been wearing every day since it got cold. I think the style would work on your body type too.
I would also recommend that instead of sweaters, that maybe you could work in some cardigans. With a cardigan you can have lots of fun with the shirt underneath. I've been known to wear my fun Delia's tees with a cardigan, navy usually and tada! Instant professionalism.

Why can't you wear skirts? I like skirts for work, even in the winter - during a workday, I don't have to go outside too often so it's not like I'm trudging through the snow. I wear a knee-length skirt, patterned tights, and knee-high boots (flats or with a low heel)
