DVD Evil

Is it just me or do DVDs not work like a quarter of the time?  We had a new DVD player and it started skipping DVDs after a couple of months.  The movies were jerky, choppy or just stopped altogether.  The same thing has happened with the player we had before, but this one was even worse- and they were both expensive machines.  This never happened with VHS!  Forget the marginally better picture quality- I think this is one innovation the world could have done without.  The DVD player salesman that we just talked to agreed that DVDs fail a horrible lot of the time and he doesn't know why the industry switched.

Anyone else scarred by Discs of Video Doom?

This never happens to me and I just use inexpensive Magnavox and Sanyo.

It's never happened to me except once I rented a movie and the disc was scratched. I have the cheapest DVD player Wal-Mart offers.

my first dvd player was kind of sucky. I went to best buy and the guy recommended using compressed air to clean it, but the little straw thing broke off inside so I just chucked the whole thing and got a sony on sale. I haven't had any problems with it.
