We're taking engagement pictures in December. I would like to have my makeup professionally done. I always use a really talented makeup lady, who is based out of a salon, but she'll be out of town then. So I was thinking about going to an upscale counter to have it done. I already know the drill about buying products and tipping.
But here's the hitch, I'll be taking the pictures (and getting my makeup done) in Atlanta and I'm in Florida. And I won't be able to go up there until the day before the shoot, so I'll have to book sight unseen. Luckily, my mom is up there and I can send her to scope out people, see what their personal makeup looks like, etc.
I was considering the following: Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy, and Laura Mercier. Any other ideas, suggestions, feedback?
I have nothing to add as far as Atlanta goes, but I have seen the ladies who work at the local Nordstrom MAC counter do wedding parties. The girls I have seen looked beautiful the way their makeup was done.
I've always had excellent results with the Lancome makeup artists. Whenever I've had my makeup done by MAC the makeup is way too dark. I haven't tried any of the three you've listed, but I would probably lean towards Bobbi Brown.
Carrie Bradshaw: The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.
I have had my makeup done by all three counters and they all did a great job. Honestly, I think it comes down the person. I would look on the websites and see which makeup looks you prefer. Also, its hard to judge by a person's makeup. I had a girl at the Nars counter, with crazy, wild makeup, give me an great conservative daytime look.
So I would look at their websites and pick based on which colors/makeup/models you like.
My personal fav is Trish, but I really have had good luck at all of them.

I know a MAC make-up person who does make-up for weddings on the side. I'm not suggesting a MAC counter (unless you like the drag queen look - heh), but you might call and see if any of the people do professional make-up to help you make a better discussion.
Bobbi Brown is my favorite makeup line to wear and I've had great experiences at BB counters, as well. It is generally a makeup line with a natural, clean look, which is what I prefer, so that's who I'd gravitate towards.
Mac at Perimeter is amazing. I have gotten my make-up done hunderds of times there, when I worked at Perimeter. They all have crazy make-up and hair themselves, but they seem to do exactly what you want. Most of them freelance on the side for photoshoots so they really know what they are doing. There are a few girls that still work there that I know.
I'd go with whomever has the foundations that most closely match your skintone. I'd personally choose Trish of the three but you really can't go wrong.
Another option would be someone at Giorgio Armani. I used GA for my graduation pics and the makeup really photographs very well.
