I have a lot of nice clothes, but I feel like i don't wear them as much as my not-as-nice clothes. A lot of times I'll think, "Oh, i'm just going to work..I don't want to ruin/waste wearing that." I know it's a stupid mentality, but I find myself doing it a lot.
I don't really. I just wear what I want to work - because usually whatever I wear to work, I keep on all day anyway, so if I go out at night or whatever I still look pretty. Plus, it's not like I'm a construction worker or anything where my clothes will get ruined, so I figure they're okay. I also figure, the people I work with see me for a longer period of time than anyone else. If I go out at night, I won't be with my friends for 9 hours straight! So why not wear your pretty things when more people will see them?

I keep buying these cute dresses and outfits to where "somtime/when we get a babysitter/next time we go out with friends" etc. Needless to say those times are few and very far between. So the outfits sit and wait. Maybe its me subconciously (sp?) trying to tell myself we need to do those things more often.
Yes. I put nice outfits on a pedestal and "save" them for times when it is "worth it" to wear them. Of course, I never end up finding the perfect time to do it.
same here...i buy nice clothes but i dont wear them, also b/c my bf dresses down alot so sometimes i feel weird when hes in jeans and sneakers and im wearing a nice dress.
Yes, I do this too! I felt weird wearing my DVF to work, but I didn't have anywhere else to wear it, so I started wearing it to work. Just doing that helped me get a little better about it. But I still find myself thinking "oh, this outfit is too nice for work, it will smell bad after being on the Metro." I'm trying to get better though because I really enjoy wearing my nice clothes. I think I'll always reserve my favorite and nicest bags for non-work though.
Do you know what, I do the exact opposite! I always get so excited when I get something new that I wear it asap regardless of whether or not it is occasion appropraite! haha. I will often be over-dressed for my daily life, but I don't care too much -- I want to wear my nice stuff, darn it. The problem is that I am really hard on my clothes and shoes and will often not take care of them nearly as well as others seem to.

I wish I was like that!!
Well, believe me, sometimes I'm out there wearing sweaters when it's warm out just because I can't resist!

This is me right now. I am a SAHM and also a college student, so it's hard to justify dressing up. It was only over the summer that I got back down to size and started buying pretty clothes again.
Anyway, yes I did this too when I was working. I worked in a small and casual-conservative office, to wear something even semi-dressy would have gotten me too much attention.
I try to remember to only buy nice clothes that I will still think look great for years.

I totally do this. I wear the crappiest clothes to work because, you know, it's just work. (Crappy is an exaggeration because I work in a professional environment, of course.) But I hardly ever wear nice clothes to work because I know they won't appreciate them. Plus if I wear anything fashion forward, I get comments and looks, so it's really not worth it. Luckily I wear lots of dresses when I go out. I'm always the one who's overdressed in an outing but I. just. don't. care. I like nice clothes. It's not my fault I live in a city where flip flops and tank tops are acceptable for all occasions.
I'm like littlebean - usually overdressed for every occasion. And by overdressed, I mean that all my friends will be in jeans, while I'm wearing a skirt. *sighs* I work from home most of the time, and a lot of it is messy work, so I'm in ratty sweats / tanks-tees, etc. So when I do go out, even if it's just to run errands, I like to dress UP. Though I have to say, my more casual dresses get worn a lot more than my dressier ones, like my DVF and others...it's hard to put on a DVF and killer heels just to run errands.
If I worked in an office, it would be totally different - I'd wear all my "dressier" dresses, pants, and skirts. I loved to really dress when I was in the corporate world. I feel like everyone is SO schlumpy these days...I was just at the mall the other day to do some returns and even the sales associates at stores were so meh! I can't stand it.

I work in an extremely casual place so I wear that stuff to work. I constantly buy heels and dresses though even though I don't wear them as often.
me too and I hate it! I feel too out of place when I "dress up" for work. I'll occasionally wear a jersey dress, but even then I feel weird.
I have all sorts of cute outfits planned for my trip to Quebec next week and I'm so excited to wear them! (no clue why shleppping around museums and historical sights seems more worthy of nuce dressing than work does? )
My office is super casual, too. And for a while, I felt weird about dressing up (like ILC, even wearing a jersey dress is like WOAH fancy there), but now I've decided that I just don't care. I wear wrap dresses and boots and pretty flats and skirts and at first everyone made comments every single day. Now people rarely do, I guess they're just used to it. I like to look pretty and I'm not going to get scrubby to go to work. Just like I won't dumb myself down around people who act/are stupid, you know? I mean, work isn't that much fun to begin with. I need something to make it a little special!
Okay, it also doesn't hurt that the hottest guy in my office told me that he appreciates that I dress up

OMG yes I was just lamenting this the other day. I have a pair of Jimmy Choo boots I got 2 years ago and I've never worn them because I'm afriad of them getting wet or scuffed. It's obscene!

Same here, I always have cute cocktail dresses in my closet begging to be worn but when I go out I never go out to a fancy place and if I do, my boyfriend is in jeans and a button down, so I feel stupid.
I do this, too. Funny thing is though that no matter how many cute 'nice' things I have, I never seem to have something 'nice' that's both occasion- and weather-appropriate . And it took me awhile after I quit my office job to stop buying office clothes - more than half of my shoes are 'office appropriate'. I'm at home right now. And then I'll be in school. And then probably be working for a hospital and wearing scrubs all the time. Things do not look good for those poor neglected shoes!

I have a lot of stuff I pass over...I tend to buy either dressy or professional clothing. When I am getting dressed, I usually look at the stuff in my closet and say to myself "I need more casual stuff."
However, when I do buy casual stuff, which seems to be of poor quality, I end up not liking it (i.e. sweatshirts or hoodies). So it's a constant struggle between too dressy & too casual!
