My DH is working this year which means we're not going to anyones house so it looks like I'll be making it at my house for the first time ever. Neither of us are big on turkey so I'll be making a ham, mashed potatos and cornbread dressing for sure. I'll probably make one more side that I'm not sure of yet. For dessert I'll make a pie, either pumpkin or apple.
I'm heading back home for thanksgiving so my mom is cooking : ) We usually have Turkey and gravy, rolls from a local bakery, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn pudding, brussel sprouts, relish tray, creamed onions, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and apple pie (apple pie only if my sister will be there).
My mom goes way overboard for thanksgiving...this year we'll have a smaller group though, so maybe she won't make everything.
The bf and I have been talking about actually cooking this year. Sorta scary! The plan is to do a large potluck for all the friends who aren't able to go home/don't want to go home. We would do the turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and probably the mashed potatoes as well. And maybe some sort of sweet potato casserole.

pecan pie pumpkin pie pumpkin cheesecake chocolate silk pie coffee bailys
I'm hosting for the first time! Due to space constraints I'm trying to make the menu a good bit smaller than it's been in the past.
For starters I'm just going to have fruit and cheese and a red pepper spread/dip with bread.
-turkey (mom's making this) -2 green vegetable dishes served on the same platter - I was going to do this green bean recipe but it has some bad reviews and possibly this brussels sprouts one if I think I can use vegetable broth instead of chicken (I don't eat meat) -mac & cheese (this NYT article last year inspired my dad to make mac & cheese (he NEVER cooks) so even though I find the recipe a bit gross, that's his contribution) -stuffing - if my sister makes this it i'm going to show her this recipe: apple, sausage, and parsnip stuffing with fresh sage or if I make it I'll do something vegetarian, possibly with chestnuts -biscuits, cornbread or maybe these white cheddar puffs -cranberry sauce -I'm on the fence about mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes or a non-green veg, all of which we normally have.
For dessert my grandmother is making apple pie, my mom is making cherry crisp and my sister is making pumpkin pie so maybe I'll make something chocolatey.
Next week my sister and her friend are hosting a "Friends Thanksgiving." I'm bringing sweet potato gnocchi (trying the recipe for the first time today) and maybe one other thing. Perhaps one of these individual apple tart recipes since I have a lot of puff pastry.
cc those sound great! i think i might try to make the sweet potato gnocchi too, as an addition to my MIL's dinner. (i eat meat, but do not like turkey. last year they got me fried chicken at the last minute )

I am not responsible for the whole meal this year, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee! We'll probably end up making the stuffing (thinking of doing a sausage/onion/celery version this year) and probably the fruit salad, but what I'm really excited for is the gingerbread cheesecake I'm bring for dessert .

No, not really! It's a Martha Stewart recipe, so it's fairly involved with all the crust making and filling making and water bath baking .... here is the recipe.

So what time are we all meeting up at Drew's house?
Anytime! I hope I'm not getting in over my head... I planned early, have all the recipes, am buying dry-goods tonight, will make 1/2 the food Wed. and the other half T-day. Oh, by the way, I'm no longer making homemade pies, just picking them up, so I'm kinda cheating there.
I tried this lemon cookie recipe out the other day and I highly reccommend it! I didn't even have enough lemon juice, very little honey so I used less, no lemon extract, no eggs, or even powdered sugar so I subbed orange juice, extra lemon peel, about 1.5 T olive oil for the eggs, and self grounded sugar (in a processor) for the powdered sugar and these were incredibly good. I am going to try the written recipe making half with lemon and the other half with lime. Try these out, ladies, they are super delicious and really easy to make!
The only thing I'm responsible for is the stuffing. Our menu is quite simple. Turkey (duh!) with gravy green bean casserole chedder, broccoli & rice casserole mashed potatoes rolls stuffing
apple pie caramel chocolate cake with flan pecan pie
I've just had a special request to bring the ultimate 1970s midwestern suburban recipe my mom probably got out of Reader's Digest. It's basically Velveeta cheese, cheddar cheese, hash browns and onions. My siblings and I have tried to fancy it up over the years, but it just works best with Velveeta and frozen hash browns. It's a crowd pleaser.
Other than that, my friend is cooking and he is a professional chef, so it should be good.
