I'm taking a storytelling class at school. Yup, we tell stories for our assignments...fables, fairytales, etc. It's really fun. My final is coming up and I want to do Oral Interpretation. Basically reciting a poem, or an excerpt from a book or a movie. I would really like to do an excerpt from a movie, but I need some ideas of movies to choose from. So far I have:
-Fight Club -The Notebook -Pulp Fiction -A Beautiful Mind -Kill Bill volume 1&2
I know there are tons of other great movies, but I cant really think of any. I'm looking for something that has straight dialogue for about 5-10 minutes. I'm not going to be acting, so it cant involve props or a set for the point to get across. I just thought I could get some ideas from you ladies. Thanks in advance for any help!!!
This may sound odd, but the narrative from American Psycho is actually quite good. Especially Christian Bale's monologue about business cards of bankers in NYC. A warning though, the movie is *very* violent.
The American Psycho one would be good and easy to do because you could use the book or the movie. He has a couple of good rants in there the one about Huey Lewis and the News is good too.
I was thinking something from High Fidelity might be funny. Also, the part in Devil Wears Prada when Miranda goes on and on about the blue sweater...but that's probably not long enough.
There is some great monologues in Dracula, the original from 1931 Gone with the Wind (the I'll never be hungry again on) Wizard of Oz ( when she comes back and talks about her "dream" Citizen Kane East of Eden ("Mr. Trask, it's awful not to be loved. It's the worst thing in the world. Don't ask me -- even if you could -- how I know that. I just know it") Rebel Without a Cause ("He must hate me. He hates me. I know he does. He looks at me like I'm the ugliest thing in the world. He doesn't like my friends. He doesn't like one thing about me. He called me - he called me a dirty tramp"). Psycho To Kill a Mockingbird ( the closing argument in the rape case) Patton (opening speach to the troops) a personal favorite of mine Apocolypse Now ( the speach about the horrors he's seen hacked off arms of innoculated children etc) CaddyShack (where he talks about caddying for the Dali Lama, it's hysterical) Mommy Dearst ( the no more wire hangers one) Field Of Dreams ( the people will come speach by James Earl Jones) Good Will Hunting (where Robin Williams calls hima scared shitless kid) High Fidelity ( when he alks about his top five breakups)
