Domino had a section on Pratesi sheets last month in the decorator's favorites section. I was able to feel and see these sheets today at Bloomingdale's - twice. I couldn't resist going back to the store to caress the sheets and have the sales associate explain the history.
A seamstress cuts linen in the Pratesi Factory, Casalguidi, Pistoia Italy.
The length of the cotton fiber is called the "staple." Egyptian cotton has a 24-inch staple.
"Supima" is a trademark that stands for "superior pima," the very best pima cotton.
Ritz Carlton uses Pratesi Linens in their executive suites.
Pratesi will send complimentary swatches of fabric to their clients.
The type of embroidery found on the basic Pratesi sheets and classic bathrobe is called "chain."
Price range:
Pratesi "Paradise" Collection: $2,620
Pratesi Jacquard: $1,680
Pratesi "Angel Skin" Cotton Bed Linen: $1,220
I their classic chain link style. It's much too extravagant to put on a registry (IMO) but it's nice to dream. FI and cousin's reactions were "is it made of gold?"...
Here Domino blogger found a good knock-off:
Best Of: Cheater Pratesi
Ever heard of Laytner's Linen & Home? Perhaps not the first name in luxury, but if you can't afford real Pratesi chain link on page 48 of the current issue--and honestly who can??--why not try their embroidered scalloped sheets?
You can buy a whole king sheet set AND king duvet set with shams for less than the cost of one teensy little Pratesi boudoir sham, about $180. They claim it's 400 thread count! While burgundy has never been my favorite color I'm guessing the blue (not pictured on the site) is actually pretty. I think every shade of blue is pretty! Elfya, my Belgian chocolate, thank you for this one.
wow, that really is beautiful.. I've always been one to splurge when it comes to bedding, but that knock-off if pretty darn impressive. I agree, blue would be stunning.

I too, am in love with Pratesi chain link bedding and found an exquisitely made knock off for only $99 (Full/Queen) which fits my Queen perfectly. Included is the duvet as well as 2 standard shams and 2 Euro shams. I know it's cool to have 4 standards at the moment so you may wanna make a special request prior to checkout. Also, they shipped fast!
