chicago hotel recs?
Permalink Closed

my husband and i are taking off for a last minute weekend trip to chicago and i'm looking for a really nice place to stay.

right now i'm leaning towards Sofitel. i've also looked into the drake, four seasons and raffaello. so i'm just looking for a few more ideas.

thanks!

oh, and i'm also looking for restaurant and shopping too. we are BOTH extremely excited to have an entire weekend by ourselves to shop! mostly clothing. so if anyone has a favorite boutique pass it on!

If I could spend as much as I wanted, I would stay at the Ritz, Four Seasons, the Peninsula or Sutton Place (a really fab boutique hotel).

The Conrad (a hilton luxury property) is really nice and right above Nordstroms. We stayed at the Hilton Suites on Delaware Place (one block from 900 Michigan Ave shopping) for a wedding last summer, and it was great. Very new, all suites and great location.

I don't love the Drake. It's in a great location, but the rooms need serious renovating. I toured it for a possible conference location 2 years ago and was disappointed for the amount they charge.

i just stayed at the w city centre and loved it - it is downtown though (not sure if you want that) we couldn't get into the w lakeshore the weekencd we went but that hotel looked beautiful.

as for restaurant recs - we went to cafe ba ba reeba - fun tapas w/ really good sangria and had chicago pizza at gino's.. soo good.

have fun!

I've stayed at the W Lakeshore and it's awesome.  I highly recommend.

I also 2nd Monica's suggestion of Cafe Baba Reeba - this is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago, and the best tapas spot.  As a Chicagoan, I personally do not like Gino's or Giordano's pizza at all.  My favorite is Aurelio's.

For shopping - Lincoln Park at Halsted and Armitage Ave is awesome.  Really great boutique shopping.  Obviously there's Michigan Ave and State St.  There's also some really cute boutiques Wrigleyville around Southport and Addison.

If you need to know anything else, feel free to ask me or pm me!

thanks girls,

we're leaving tomorrow and i still have yet to book a hotel. i think i've narrowed it down to sofitel (it looks amazing and has incredible reviews has anyone stayed there?) and perhaps W lakeshore since it was mentioned twice. i'm over the drake it does look awfully tired. thought i'd consider it since it's a chicago classic.

i've made notes of everthing in this thread. cafe baba reeba sounds excellent!

I can also recommend the W Lakeshore. Sofitels are generally really nice and I heard good things about the one in Chicago. Sometimes for things like this I like to hit the highest star option on Priceline and see what comes up -- but that's just when I'm feeling adventurous and wonder how good of a place I can get for how little money. smile.gif

Sofitel is #1 on Tripadvisor.com. I would go with that one.

I just saw that you haven't booked your hotel yet, and wanted to give you heads up - hopefully you won't have a problem booking one so last minute, but there's a medicial convention in town right now and most hotels are booked solid.  I only know this because I book a lot of travel as part of my job.  I just wanted to give you a heads up and hope you have no issue!

You're welcome!  Good luck w/your drive and be careful.  It's supposed to storm on and off all day here too.   Let me know what you end up doing and seeing here!
