Are the 90s coming back or am I imagining things?

I've been watching 90210 reruns on soapnet lately, and every once in a while, an outfit will strike me as oddly current. (eta: babydoll dresses, tshirts under slip dresses, chunky sandals that remind me of Fryes, etc.)

Today I was browsing for fall shoes and I found these - new and full price :

I think I might have pictures of me wearing these shoes around age 18. The kids in high school now were born in the 90s/late 80s, so maybe it is natural to think this stuff is cool/retro now. I know we used to comb thrift stores looking for clothing from the 70s and early 80s. Thoughts?

the fact that today's high school kids were born in the 90s is SCARY.

Agreed.  I'm not sure if the 90s are coming back or not, but there is definitely a significant contigent of people who will ALWAYS wear big, cluncky unattractive shoes.

They're definitely coming back -- the grey, the plaid, the chunky platforms, the long hangy stuff, the new minimalism. I don't think I'm particularly excited by this development fashion-wise! Or ego-wise, since it makes me feel old.

You hit the nail on the head with that one, luckylily.

That is true. I work in a tourist destination and spend my lunch breaks people watching. There are a whole lot of ugly shoes in this world. Maybe its because these are made by a brand that I usually look at when browsing for shoes because they normally have affordable and cute shoes. Every other pair I saw was pretty trendy and these were in the first row with a big New! over them.

Aw, I like plaid and grey, just not the flannel, grungy variety. smile.gif

However, I do agree that there will always be ugly, chunky shoes. They never went away where I currently live. I see them everywhere. It was so shocking to move back here after living in Philadelphia for years. It was like a fashion time-warp. I can't believe the amount of chunky shoes still walking around.

Yeah, they are coming back.  I am 31, so the 90's were totally the era for me and I have been noticing clunky and platform shoes and other 90's-ish stuff in stores and magazines.

I live in the suburbs, and in some pockets, clunky shoes never went away anyway.  But interestingly, my favorite pair of clunky shoes I wore in the 90's was actually a pair of sandals that belonged to my MOM in the early 70's.

And um, I don't think those shoes you listed are so bad.  They aren't my style, but I think they would look pretty cute on my semi-emo, 9 years younger, non-gen x sister.

And alas, isn't that the key....would look good on someone younger.... cry  I am thinking like Littlebean, this 90's comeback isn't good for my ego.
