recommendations for tv series

hey everyone, my husband and i have been watching different series on dvd a lot lately during the week (we live in the middle east and have very limited access to regular tv) and are looking for something new.  we usually stick to hbo or showtime shows b/c we've seen all the major shows on the main networks.  for example, we just finished watching the last season of the sopranos and are now watching weeds, which we like very much.

does anyone have recommendations for other shows??  i've heard there is a show on showtime called dexter about a serial killer that is good but would love to read about other suggestions as well.  thanks!

I'm not sure your taste but if you haven't watched it the Arrested Development DVDs are great as well as the BBC's The Office.

Currently on my NetFlix list is actually Freaks and Geeks as well.

Another HBO series that I absolutely loved when it was on is Six Feet Under.  Maybe try that.  Curb Your Enthusiasm is also really good and hilarious.  HTH!

Arrested Development may just be the best show ever. I also just finished watching the first season of Big Love and really liked it. Very strange, but very good.

Also, the entire Planet Earth series is incredible. It's a documentary series from the BBC about various animals. It's really amazing and I highly recommend it.

wow, thanks for all the great suggestions.  here is what i decided to get for now:

the brittish office--loved the american version and was considering the bbc edition anyway

arrested development--have heard many great things about this one

planet earth--b/c i love documentaries

these weren't recommended but i am going to also get:

Thanks, girls.  We already pre-ordered Weeds (we love it).  I just looked these up and added "How I Met Your Mother," "The Closer," and "Dirt" to the list.  "Mindfreak" looks intriguing (and I've heard about it) but I might wait on that one.  Thanks again for the help!
