Shopping for kid's school clothes...
Permalink Closed

For those of you with school-age kids, have you started shopping for school clothes yet?  Do you buy before, or wait until school is in session?

I'm done with a lot of it.  My kids can wear summer clothes well into fall, and school starts here in Phoenix in FOUR WEEKS!  So, when my sister gave me a 50% off coupon for Gymboree, I jumped on it and bought a TON of outfits for both of my girls.  I need to get them some shoes and new backpacks/lunchbags and that's it!

no advice, but I hated school shopping when I was a kid! I'd always blow my budget on summer clothes and then freeze in November! Plus, you can never wear all the cute fall stuff until then. Hmph.

My girls aren't school age yet, but I have already started to buy them fall clothes. It's definitely way too hot to wear that stuff, so they probably won't be wearing any of it until September.
When I was a kid my mom would start school clothes shopping for us around late July. We would usually have everything we needed at least a week before school started. I still remember after school started she would make us change out of the clothes when we got home from school, but then she would give up after a week or so!

I try to be good and buy a lot of it in advance during the good sales.  Since we live in the northeast, I know it's gonna be freezing most of the time so buying sweatshirts and sweaters and such the year before really helps.  With my oldest, he's becoming more picky about stuff, so I end up spending a lot on him since he has to buy it right then for that season.

I'm lucking out this year as we received tons of hand-me-downs from some distant relative, so we won't have to spend any money on clothes for the boy until maybe next fall. Of course, I'll still have to buy underwear and undershirts for him, and probably one or two special outfits.
But typically, I look all year long at sale racks in sizes he'll eventually be. So I have things stored for when he's like 10!

Wow! There's actually 50% off Gymboree coupons?! If I ever get my hands on one of those, I'll make out like a bandit!

DD is on a preschool waiting list, she's #4 on the list, which I hope means she'll get in to the fall school year. If she does, I dont think I'll go shopping for fall stuff until November, since it's pretty warm in So. Cal. until around late Nov, if anything. She's pretty much stocked up for summer since I bought her some stuff in the Spring and she got tons of clothes from grandma for her birthday last week.

About a month ago, Gymboree sent out discount scratch-off to people that purchase through the stores or online.  Mine was for 20% off, but my sister scored with the 50% off coupon.  She used hers in-store and bought $1200 worth of clothes for $300 for her 2 girls (they'll wear Gymbo for many years to come!).  Everything she bought was already on sale and then she got an additional 50% off.  She gave me the code and it worked online too, so I stocked up!  She tried it online again after I did, but it was done.  We got some great outfits, though, and then got $125 in Gymbucks to boot!
