Romantic getaways

Im currently in houston and am trying to plan a romantic day/evening overnight trip. It has to be close by because we will only have a day to spend due to bf's work schedule. I dont have a huge budget, would probably only be able to spend 200 on the trip. I was thinking either galveston, san antonio, or even just planning a night at a hotel here in houston.

The trouble im having is deciding what we would do if we went to any of these places. I really want this trip to be about us, and for us both to enjoy it. And when i looked at things to do in these cities i didnt see anything that would interest us. But maybe someone on here knows more about these places than me.

I thought it would be really cool to rent him a hummer h2 for the day, go out to nice dinner, and then retreat to a romantic hotel here in houston. But can't find a reasonable price for a h2, and I dont know how to make staying at a hotel in the city we live romantic.

Any help, im starting to stress

I would go to San Antonio-I love it there.  Most of the hotels are nice on the Riverwalk.  If you are on a budget you may want to try Priceline for a hotel (try www.biddingfortravel.com for help with bidding).  My favorites in San Antonio are Hotel Valencia or the Watermark (but these are on the pricey side).

As for things to do-just hanging out at the Riverwalk is fun.  You can also have dinner on a boat that goes through the Riverwalk.  There is a cute (though touristy) Mexican market.  It is just a very fun, festive atmosphere in San Antonio.

I live in San Antonio and I think it would be easy to make it a nice romantic getaway. Like travelgirl suggested you could get a hotel by the riverwalk and walking around downtown by the riverwalk at night is always nice and relaxing. There are plenty of nice restaurants there and some of the restaurants have seating outside right by the river.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me!

Austin and the hill country would also be nice to visit for a romantic getaway.

well its probably too late but the magnolia hotel in houston is nice. Its downtown and near some decent restaurants if I remember my geography right. As far as things to do its just up to your personality. For example if you are the type that likes the zoo then you could plan a day trip to the zoo, clean up, go to dinner then go to a hotel. If you like a musuem you could insert that as your thing to do. There are a ton of museums, plays, ballets, games, etc that go on here you just have to find what you like and go. You just have to preplan as this isn't a spur of the moment type town. Houston is also known for their restaurants.

As far as galveston goes it would take a lot for me to go down there willingly as their beach is not very impressive nor is the restaurant selection (unless you are into Moody Gardens and Rainforest Cafe).

Kemah in Houston gets talked up a bunch. Its basically an area full of Landry's owned restaurants but they have a boardwalk thing to go on with some carnie type games and rides. I think they have a hotel down there as well.

San Antonio would be nice to do like Ranchera suggests.

I'm not a fan of the outdoors/live music/etc so Austin isn't really my kind of place. I could see how going into the hill country area nearby Austin would be nice and relaxing if you like the great outdoors.
